John Wall: Should He Be Playing for the Kentucky Wildcats?

When you look at YouTube videos, you never know if what you see is real or imagery put together by some creative sort. Last year, while still in high school and undecided on his college choice, John Wall was plastered all over the site. Granted, the kid is not from the New York playground, but he became a YouTube legend. With some incredible one-on-one feats that the Harlem Globetrotters would be proud of, Wall has made his make as a national sensation at an early age. It was very clear by those who followed this kid's career that he has incredible skill and would have been either the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in last year's NBA draft. Instead, Wall went through a planned smokescreen and followed John Calipari to Kentucky. What is Wall doing at Kentucky? Looking back at Wall's recruitment it was pretty clear early on he was going to Memphis. Kansas remains the runaway No. 1 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll while Syracuse makes the jump from unranked to No. 10. The Jayhawks were on top of 56 of the 65 ballots by the national media panel. Michigan State and Texas stayed second and third. Michigan State was No. 1 on seven ballots, with Texas and Syracuse drawing one-first-place vote each. Villanova and Kentucky switched places at fourth and fifth. Purdue moved up a spot to sixth and Duke went up two to seventh.

Kentucky Wildcats Get Win Despite Giving Up 92 Points

The Kentucky Wildcats raised their record to 3-0 with a 102-92 win over Sam Houston State. The Wildcats gave up 18 three-point shots by the Bearkats. Kentucky had five players score in the game with all the players scoring 15 or more points. DeMarcus Cousins led the Wildcats with 27 points. Thru three games now the Wildcats are giving up an average of 73 points a game. As the season unfolds the young Wildcats will need to drop this number to around 60 a game to contend with the best teams in the country. Kentucky has the ability to score a bunch of points on every night but to win the National Title the defense will have to get better. Kentucky will be back on the court Saturday against Rider. Bruce Pearl has to be happy tonight, as his star recruiting prospect, five-star forward Tobias Harris of Dix Hills, N.Y., just announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee. Harris, rated seventh overall by ESPNU and universally regarded as a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2010, rolled with the Vols in favor of competing offers from Big East powers Louisville, Syracuse and West Virginia, Maryland and Georgia Tech from the ACC, and UT arch-rival Kentucky in the SEC. Over at ESPN, Matt Winklejohn has this great feature on Harris's growth as a player over the last several years. The SEC was college basketball's punching bag last season, but between Kentucky's Calipari revival and Pearl's hard work at Tennessee, it's starting to look as if the conference may return to prominence sooner than expected. SEC Starting Out Slow With Bad Hiccups!

Coming off a year where you only had three teams earn a spot in the NCAA tournament the last thing the SEC wanted was a slow start. But, a little over a week into the season and the conference already has five losses with four to lesser opponents. Mississippi St., Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia have all lost this year. Arkansas did lose to a quality opponent in Louisville, but when you lose by 30 that is unacceptable. With loses to Rider, Missouri State, Cornell, and Wofford, and a close call against Miami(OH) for the team believed to win the league Kentucky this could be a very long season for the conference. The Conference is sitting at 17-5 for the season so far with LSU leading the way with a 3-0 record. Earlier in the season players are rusty and you are trying to get the players adjusted to playing with each other if you have a young team. Tough Season Doesn't Take Away From Vanderbilt Seniors' Accomplishments

24 Commodore seniors were honored before Vanderbilt's SEC clash with Kentucky, and many of them were mainstays of this line-up throughout the last four years, including quarterback Mackenzi Adams, cornerback Myron Lewis and linebacker Patrick Benoist. But the Commodores couldn't send them off with a victory. After taking a 13-10 lead, Vanderbilt was dominated by Kentucky in the second half, as Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke lit up the Commodore defense with an unstoppable rushing attack. It was a very disappointing performance by the defensive line especially, as they were pushed back on play after play and run ragged in an eventual 24-13 loss. Watching it from the stands, you had to feel for all the seniors who had helped build this program into a bowl team last season and saw it go to ashes in 2009.
