"I felt we needed to go in another direction and get this program back on the track," Cardinals athletic director Tom Jurich said Saturday afternoon. Kragthorpe went 15-21 in three seasons after replacing Bobby Petrino in January 2007. He had two years remaining on a contract that paid him about $1.1 annually. Jurich said Kragthorpe will receive a $2.2 million buyout. Akron fired coach J.D. Brookhart after the Zips finished the season at 3-9. Cardinals Coach Steve Kragthorpe is out after a third straight subpar season. Kragthorpe went 4-8 this season and 15-21 overall, failing to capitalize on predecessor Bobby Petrino's success. Louisville, expected to contend in the Big East in Kragthorpe's first season before stumbling toward the cellar the last two, has lost three straight games to Rutgers and two out of three to Syracuse. The Cards went 1-6 in conference this season. Jim Leavitt's self-described "up and down" South Florida football team was exactly that on Saturday against Louisville. The Bulls were up more than they were down and B.J. Daniels was an offensive monster who led his team to a 34-22 win over the down-and-out Cardinals for the homecoming victory at Raymond James Stadium. It's no secret around the Big East that as Daniels goes, so go the Bulls. In this game, Daniels was on the go, bigtime. He ran for 141 yards, passed for 304 to spark the win that made USF bowl-eligible. It was supposed to be easy for USF in this game. This is a USF team that beats lesser opponents and loses to teams with equal or greater talent. Daniels' 445 yards were 12 short of Matt Grothe's school record 457 (Cincinnati 2007). Looked like it would be a blowout. The Bulls scored on their first two possessions, two nice 80-yard drives that produced a 14-0 lead. Kentucky Wildcats Get Win Despite Giving Up 92 Points

The Kentucky Wildcats raised their record to 3-0 with a 102-92 win over Sam Houston State. The Wildcats gave up 18 three-point shots by the Bearkats. Kentucky had five players score in the game with all the players scoring 15 or more points. DeMarcus Cousins led the Wildcats with 27 points. Thru three games now the Wildcats are giving up an average of 73 points a game. As the season unfolds the young Wildcats will need to drop this number to around 60 a game to contend with the best teams in the country. Kentucky has the ability to score a bunch of points on every night but to win the National Title the defense will have to get better. Kentucky will be back on the court Saturday against Rider. After Arkansas' Loss to Louisville, the Hogs Might have a Long Season

The early outlook for the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team could be termed bleak. Five suspensions have the Razorbacks working with six scholarship basketball players and working with no bench. The Razorbacks defied those odds and came out with a bang in their first game of the season against Alcorn State. Reality hit in the the second game of the season, a 30 point loss to Rick Pitino and the Louisiville Cardinals. The Razorbacks showed heart in their loss coming out to start the second half by cutting the 17 point lead down to three. The rest of the way was all Cardinals as the Razorbacks ran out of gas. In the Hogs' defense, they started the game with half a tank of gas to begin with anyway. Louisville coach Rick Pitino commented at halftime and after the game that Arkansas is a better team than the score indicated. SEC Starting Out Slow With Bad Hiccups!

Coming off a year where you only had three teams earn a spot in the NCAA tournament the last thing the SEC wanted was a slow start. But, a little over a week into the season and the conference already has five losses with four to lesser opponents. Mississippi St., Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia have all lost this year. Arkansas did lose to a quality opponent in Louisville, but when you lose by 30 that is unacceptable. With loses to Rider, Missouri State, Cornell, and Wofford, and a close call against Miami(OH) for the team believed to win the league Kentucky this could be a very long season for the conference. The Conference is sitting at 17-5 for the season so far with LSU leading the way with a 3-0 record. Earlier in the season players are rusty and you are trying to get the players adjusted to playing with each other if you have a young team.
