Hurricane Gustav's Effect On LSU's Schedule

Hurricane Gustav isn't much of a threat anymore but it is still affecting LSU's football game schedule. The game against Appalachian State was scheduled for last Saturday afternoon but the kickoff time was moved up to 10 a.m. (LSU won the game, 41-13). Today, LSU Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced that the LSU vs. Troy game will be postponed until Nov. 15 which is an open date for both teams. Tickets for the original game which would've been played this week will still be valid when the game is played in November. “The welfare of the people of Baton Rouge, the uncertain power issues facing all of us and the condition of Tiger Stadium were all factors in making this decision,” said Alleva. “We are fortunate that both schools had a common open date later in the year. SEC teams should all apply for an American Express card because they sure are afraid to leave home without it. Or perhaps some wealthy boosters could donate GPS systems so the teams won't be afraid that they will lose their way and never be heard from again. Could it be an intense Nomophobia — fear of being out of mobile phone contact. No, I think not. I believe there's another reason for the SEC's Hodophobia. More than likely they are afraid of getting their butts kicked. It always looks better to pay some 1-AA patsy to come to your house and take their licking. Afterall, that's a good way to pad your stats. Speaking of stats, how do these grab you? LSU has postponed its football game against Troy after Hurricane Gustav rolled through Louisiana this week. A person with direct knowledge of athletic scheduling at LSU told The Associated Press the Tigers' game versus the Trojans will be played Nov. 15. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not been formally notified yet. LSU has scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m. EDT.

PAC 10: Won 10 of 16 Matchups Against SEC!

I am an SEC guy. I dislike the PAC - 10 and in particular loathe Rick Neuheisel, who stands for everything that I disdain about that conference. (Except for the fact that Neuheisel CHEATS ... like it or not the PAC - 10 is generally a clean conference.) But I have to admit, last night when I saw Rick Neuheisel yelling and screaming on the sideline while Philip Fulmer was, well, being Philip Fulmer, I knew that the Vols were in trouble. Sure enough, the Vols go down in overtime despite four INTs and a huge edge in talent and experience. What does this mean? Despite the common claims to SEC supremacy, the woofing by people like me, the PAC - 10 is actually 10 - 6 in their last 16 match ups against the SEC. More important, take away USC, and the PAC - 10 is still 6 - 6. More important still, take away LSU, clearly the best SEC team of the decade and at worst in a tie with Oklahoma and Ohio State for the second best team overall, and the SEC is only 10 - 2 against the PAC - 10. LSU is fresh off an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game. Ohio State was pre-2007 also. This preseason many have LSU ranked in the top 15. LSU has only one real question, and I believe the answer is Andrew Hatch. The Tigers have always been at their best with brains at the steering wheel, and this guy is from . . . what’s that you say? . . . Harvard!! Land sakes alive! If this guy could get into Harvard, I have to believe he can keep up with the play clock, and no doubt he can dump the ball rather than eat it. Coach! Let this boy drive! If you follow SEC football just a little you might remember our “all-world” quarterback blowing a sure field goal at Auburn just before halftime in 2006. He tried to get something out of a play that clearly was not there, and Auburn (like Homie the Clown) don’t play that. They nailed him and the clock ran down. Game! Today begins the kickoff of college football season. For me and the millions of college football fans across the country, this is our time. We will wake up on game day, either really early to make it to the tailgate outside the stadium; or right before ESPN College Game day comes on to see if Lee, Kirk, and Chris pick our team on Saturday. We will put on our freshly purchased jersey, hat, or t-shirt; letting each of these new items in our game day attire wash away the pain of a losing season, a bowl game loss, or favorite departed player. We will make sure that either the fridge or our coolers are stocked well in advance. Not one of us likes to go hungry or thirsty before, during, and after the game. We will welcome back alumni to campus and introduce new co-eds to places like Toomer's Corner, The Grove, and The 12th Man. We will watch the parade of sorority sisters and cadets march to their own respective cadence, one group carrying Coach purses and the other ...
