Tobias Harris: Latest Addition to the Tennessee Vols Basketball Family

To say that Tobias Harris was a big catch for Bruce Pearl and the Tennessee Vols would be a massive understatement. As a matter of fact, Harris is quite possibly Pearl's biggest catch yet.
Harris officially signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday night and announced his decision at the ESPN Zone in Manhattan on Thursday.
In just four seasons on the job in Knoxville, Bruce Pearl has raised the level of play and the level of expectations to unprecedented heights.
Tennessee is a football school. It's been known pretty well for basketball too, but that had much more to do with Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols more than anything the men ever did.
Of course that's expected, since Pat Summitt is the greatest coach in the history of the women's game, maybe in the history of basketball, period. Still, Bruce Pearl had quite a job on his hands.
Four years in, his program is on the verge of equaling the dynamic duo of Vols football and Lady Vols basketball. This signing almost assures that.

Top Ranked Jayhawks Get Back To Business, Blast Bears 94-44

The last time the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team took the court, the Memphis Tigers gave the top rated team in the land all they could handle.
Thursday night at the cozy confines of Allen Fieldhouse, the Central Arkansas Bears did not.
The Jayhawks used a 21-0 run to jump out to a 29-5 lead early in the first half and never looked back.
Paced by senior leader Sherron Collins' seven points, eight players scored and 11 took the court in the first 20 minutes.
The second half was much of the same as everyone with a crimson jersey contributed to the 94-44 blow out victory.
As Kansas coach Bill Self cleared the bench nine players ended up posting seven points or more.
Xavier Henry, Marcus Morris, Tyrel Reed and Collins led the team in scoring with 12 points each.
Freshman Thomas Robinson grabbed 13 rebounds and added eight points off the bench.
Maybe the brightest moment of the game was freshman point guard C.J. Henry getting first action of the season hitting two 3-point shots en route ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Kansas Jayhawks, Sherron Collins, Bill Self, Memphis Tigers, Central Arkansas Bears

No. 1 Kansas scores 23 straight in rout (AP)

Tyrel Reed hit four 3-pointers for 12 points and No. 1 Kansas scored 23 straight points in the first half to overwhelm Central Arkansas 94-44 Thursday night. Coming off a tight victory over Memphis two days earlier, Kansas (3-0) dismantled Central Arkansas from the start. Spreading the ball around on offense, the Jayhawks shot 57 percent and had four players score 12 points for their 43rd straight...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Kansas Jayhawks, Tyrel Reed, Memphis Tigers

Memphis-Kansas: Tigers Take Top-Ranked Jayhawks To The Wire, 57-55

Just the sound of "The Memphis Tigers" will bring smiles to Jayhawks' basketball fans for eternity.
On Tuesday night Kansas packed up its No. 1 ranking and headed for the Scott Trade Center in St. Louis, MO for the second game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic and a rematch of the 2008 National Title Game with Memphis.
Five of the night's starters, Kansas' Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins and the Tigers' Pierre Henderson-Niles, Doneal Mack, and Willie Kemp all played in that championship game—one of the most thrilling games of all time.
Although the stakes were not as high as they were that April evening in 2008, the two programs did play in front of dozens of legendary players and a nice crowd.
Players like Rick Barry, Walt Bellamy, and Jayhawks legend Lynette Woodard had to appreciate the scrappy play of rookie coach Josh Pastner's Memphis squad and the physical dominance of Kansas big man Aldrich.
The two teams looked like they were playing in only their second game of the season ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Kansas Jayhawks, Memphis Tigers, Sherron Collins

Memphis won't release NCAA response to appeal

The University of Memphis is refusing to release the NCAA's response to its appeal of a ruling that vacated the 2007-08 men's basketball season.

The university on Wednesday denied a request filed by the The Associated Press under Tennessee's Open Records Act.

Memphis's legal counsel says they can't produce the document because they didn't receive a copy, and instead read a version of it through the NCAA's Web site.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Memphis Tigers

Lane Kiffin Has Serious Issues with Judging Character

This is just getting out of hand and fast. Lane Kiffin may be a wonderful recruiter but he apparently is horrible judge of character. Today it was released that yet another Lane Kiffin Tennessee recruit was arrested for a form of theft.
This latest incident is nowhere near as serious as armed robbery, but still it must raise some questions as to Lane and his staff’s evaluation of players. Nyshier Oliver was arrested earlier this month for shoplifting a minor enough offense, but still this is not little kid stuff anymore.
This is D-1 football and these boy's are men (if you are old enough to be drafted sorry but the kid crap is out). They should start acting like it and apparently the Kiffin should set them straight. These men are not just football players they are ambassadors of their team and more importantly their school.
The University of Tennessee also bears the name of its respective state and this continued crime spree in Knoxville is a black eye to all those who reside there. It is one ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Tennessee Volunteers, Memphis Tigers

3-Pointers: Atlantic 10 needs a win from Duquesne

Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy analyzes what Monday's buzz means to college basketball.
Put up your Dukes
Lots of games on Tuesday's calendar will draw more attention, but in some ways Duquesne at Iowa will be the biggest game of the night.
Duquesne is picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic 10 and looked strong in a victory over Nicholls State. Iowa is picked to finish last in the Big Ten and lived up to that with a dud opener against UT San Antonio.
Although the game is at Iowa, this is the kind of game the Atlantic 10 needs. The A-10 got three teams in the NCAA Tournament last year, but Temple made it only as an automatic qualifier. Had Dayton or Xavier won the league tournament, there would have been two bids, maximum.
For all the annual whining about how many at-large NCAA bids the BCS leagues consume, they get that many because they win more games. A-10 teams were 16-32 against BCS opponents last year. This is a chance to do better. A team that figures to end up in ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Memphis Tigers

One game will be a rematch of one of the greatest NCAA championship games in history, a chance to relive Mario's Miracle.

As someone who has blasted Lane Kiffin in the past for his stupid statements, lies and mental miscues, I was fully ready and willing to give Lane Kiffin a pass for this, his first player arrest.
He has kept the team pretty much in check for a month short of a year and at Tennessee, that's quite an accomplishment.
What happened last week was possibly three young men who made a terrible decision. It was something that could have happened to any coach at any team. Unfortunately, such things have become all to common.
Kiffin has talked the good talk about discipline and even the fans outside of Tennessee fully expected him to follow through with a quick and swift verdict and appropriate punishment.
However, the silence coming from Tennessee is deafening.
His only two statements boiled down to "no comment" and "we need to get all the facts."
Lane, the facts are that at least two of your players tried to rob some citizens at gunpoint. That much seems pretty clear, the involvement of the third ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Tennessee Volunteers, Memphis Tigers

Signing day winners: All eyes on newest Bucks

Most of the big winners in college basketball recruiting were decided long ago, but Wednesday's national signing day made it more official. These were the programs celebrating hardest:
