Florida State-Miami: Canes Lost the Game and Never Have Had Class

“We won! We won! Holy crap! I can’t believe it. We Won!”
This was a text I sent out to a friend of mine as I rode home from Dolphin Stadium. This jubilation was the culmination of multiple aspects of the weekend (others being the 10 bourbon and cokes and my friend Dan’s bachelor party).
The only thing that challenged to bring my happiness down were the classless Miami fans.
The game was not as close as the score made it out to be. The Noles controlled the football on offense and defense—notice I did not say “special teams.”
Jimbo called a great game. Mickey had the defense ready. Our quarterback grew up and played the best game of his short career, and Antone Smith had a second game where he looked like a pro.
Starting the game, I had a sense of nervousness. I did not think we were going to lose, but I did not think we were going to win.
How is that? I didn’t think the Noles were gonna win the game, but everything in my heart would ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Florida Gators

Florida State Tops Miami, But Still Has a Long Way To Go.

Florida State topped their biggest rival this past week beating Miami 41-39 and although this game used to have National Championships on the line, it was just as important this year, as any other year.
Both teams were playing young, inexperienced players all over the field, and both programs needed the win for two reasons. One: To stay in the hunt for an ACC title game. Two: To try and restore the program. Florida State proved to be the winner on Saturday, but there are still many things to overcome.
I really like Christian Ponder as the starter, but the inexperience is still very visible. Two interceptions and a fumble, not to mention he almost had more rushing yards then passing, which isn't always a bad thing, but when you have receivers like Florida State's, I would imagine they should be getting the ball. Ponder played savvy in the first half leading the Seminoles to a 24-3 first half lead.
Once the second half started it was almost downhill from there. Lucky for FSU, they have a top ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes

Week Six ACC Predictions: Florida State-Miami Highlights the Weekend

The ACC had some good and a lot of bad last week. Virginia Tech won a huge game against Nebraska, and Wake Forest lost to Navy. On top of it, one of the preseason favorites to win the ACC, Clemson, went down to Maryland.
Week Six should be easier to predict, but with the way the ACC has been this year there's no way to tell. Here are my Week Six predictions.

  North Carolina 35, Connecticut 21
Cam Sexton showed great progress through last week's game against Miami and should help the Tar Heels beat Connecticut this week. Greg Little should help stabilize the UNC offense, which should have a big day against the No. 24 Huskies.
Connecticut has lost starting quarterback Tyler Lorenzen for about eight weeks, and this won't help matters against a rising ACC team. I just can't pick a team to win that only beat Temple by three.

Boston College 24, NC State 20
Boston College is a tough team to judge. They're 3-1 through four games, but two of ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, Virginia Tech Hokies, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels

Pick' em: Lisa vs. Miami Mitch, College Football Game Predictions

After another spanking from the boys, Lisa can't sit down. Her tush hurts. Her pride has been bruised. Dammit, she's ticked!
Ryan predicted the Alabama upset as well as an ND win. He also got the tie-breaker on the Penn State game (14 point spread, PSU won by 14) with a total of 6/10, while Lise spanked out a 2/10. Excellent job Ryan! Now boys, buy him a drink!
Updated tallies: Boys 22/40, Lise 10/40. The humanity of it all.
Up next is Miami Mitch, who actually does this kind of stuff professionally. Here is his up close and personal blurb...

Florida State-Miami: First Big Time Matchup Between Teams Since 2000

I took a week off following the Wake loss. I didn’t want to say anything absurd or overly emotional. A few examples I thought of were, “We suck! We’re gonna lose the rest of our games! We’d even lose to Duke.” But that’s a little much.
Following Colorado, I found some new hope but had cautious optimism. I am not exactly sure why my mood for the week is dictated on the play of the Noles, but I do know that I hate when my mood is sullen, angry, and directionless.
The past two weeks we have seen two different offenses, but for the most part the same defense. We have got back all our starters on defense. Our line is strong. Our linebackers are underrated, and our secondary is solid.
Here are a few problems I see with the defense that can make us vulnerable to Miami.

* First, Colorado’s number one back, Rod Stewart (too many jokes to write one), carved us up. He had 21 carries and 105 yards for an average of 5.1 YPC.
This is bad because Colorado ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Florida Gators

Penn State: The Lions Are Out!

Penn State, the creation from the great Joe Paterno, has established itself in the most dominant way in college football. With the new "HD" offense compiling an amazing 249 points five weeks into the season, the Lions are making people talk about a potential BCS championship appearance.
Penn State has been an amazing team under the helm of of the Lions' beloved Paterno, but this season they are at the front of the bus. If they continue with their success and the way these upsets are occurring, they could find themselves first in line in the road to the big game in Miami, ready to compete with whomever the opponent may be.
Despite Penn State's not-so-fantastic record on the road since 2003, the Lions look primed for a great season and are a true contender for any team in their path.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Penn State Nittany Lions, Joe Paterno, Bowl Championship Series, Miami Hurricanes

Showdown at Dolphin Stadium: Florida State-Miami a Battle of Who Won't Lose

Old rivals will kick off in a key ACC matchup at 3:30 this Saturday. Florida State enters the game 0-1 in the conference and can ill-afford another conference loss. Miami also enters the contest 0-1, and a loss for the 'Canes would also put them in a deep hole.
The odds-makers have determined the Hurricanes will win this game by three points. But are they correct? Is Dolphin Stadium the difference between the two teams?
Both teams have solid wins over Big 12 teams. Both teams have heartbreaking losses at home to conference foes. Miami has a young and energetic coach, while FSU has a crafty veteran at the helm. Miami is coming off a tough loss, while FSU is coming off a big win.
The bottom line is that the loser of this game will find itself 0-2 in the conference and, for all intents and purposes, out of the conference race. If Miami loses, the 'Canes still have to face Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech. Those teams have a combined record of 10-3! If FSU loses, it will be ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Virginia Tech Hokies

Miami Hurricanes Quarterbacks: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The past few years for the Miami Hurricanes have been bad, although in 2001 we had our share of great games and a National Title to top it off.
Then things started to go down after the 2003 season. QB Ken Dorsey left the team to go into the NFL Draft, and the Canes started slipping from there.
Brock Berlin in my opinion was one of the best quarterbacks after Ken Dorsey left, and Berlin led us to a few bowl games. I remember watching him in the Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl against our rivals, the Florida Gators.
Now Kyle Wright wasn't one of my favorites at all. He had bad timing on his throws and that's one of the reasons why the Canes started to go downhill.
I am not saying that it was all Kyle's fault, but much of the years that Miami was in a slump and unranked was during Wright's era.
A lot of the blame was brought onto Larry Coker just because of how bad Miami's season was going, and I don't blame Miami fans for blaming him for the consecutive losses they received.
After Coker was ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes

ACC Football Recap: Who Had the Worst Loss?

This past Saturday in the ACC determined which teams have placed themselves in a hole. Let's take a look at the biggest loser in the ACC this past week.
  5. NC State got beat by 31 points to South Florida!
Granted, the Bulls are the #13 ranked team in the nation, but 31 points? NC State had just come off a big victory over ECU, giving the #15 ranked Pirates their first loss of the season. But, O'Brien still gets a pass because he is in his second year.
  4. Wake Forest loses to Navy.
That is right, to Navy. The only reason this does not go higher is because it is a non-conference game and has no real importance on the season. Unless you believe Wake had a shot for the national title, this game was just embarrassing for a school, program and coach, and yes...........for the ACC it was a complete disaster.
  3. Virginia's loss to Duke means the Groh will not make it through the season.
Not only did the Cavs lose to Duke, they lost by 28 points! Virginia ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Clemson Tigers, South Florida Bulls, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Virginia Tech Hokies, Miami Hurricanes

ACC Power Rankings After Week Five

The ACC had a pretty good weekend out of conference with two wins over Big 12 teams. Wake Forest suffered a huge upset to Navy though. Maryland and North Carolina won conference thrillers and Duke got their first ACC win of the season (and I think there will be more). 1. Virginia Tech Hokies Hokies went on the road to Nebraska and won a tough out of conference game. For the second time this season, a personal foul benefits Va Tech late allowing to extend a game sealing drive. 2. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets An off week but all the chaos allows the Jackets to move up. You saw what Paul Johnson' former team did to Wake, now put better athletes with it. 3. Wake Forest Demon Deacons I am not lowering Wake as much as some others may be. One really bad week for Riley Skinner. Lets see how they rebound before we write them off. 4. Maryland Terrapins The Terps have really turned their season around these last three weeks and suddenly Ralph Friedgen is looking like a genius again. 5.

The ACC is a strange world right now—after all, UNC and Duke stand atop the conference… and by the way, we’re not in March!
The below video is from UNC’s victory against Miami and proof enough that playing special teams is exactly what you want to avoid.
The blocker takes a ridiculous hit and his helmet goes flying 20 feet in the air. Awesome stuff.

Top Recruit Bryce Brown Wavering With Miami, Looking Hard to Missouri

Just like last season, recruiting seems to be picking up for the Missouri Tigers as the season goes on and the offense puts up points. Last year they gained crucial commitments from Blaine Gabbert, Dan Hoch, and Wes Kemp down the stretch. Each one of these offensive studs had previously committed to another school.
Well, the Tigers might be at it again.
Five-star running back Bryce Brown , out of Wichita, Kansas, has announced that he will visit Columbia on Oct. 25, when the Tigers host Colorado for their homecoming game. He will also visit Oregon at some point and has been committed to Miami since February, where his brother Arthur is a true freshman linebacker.
But Arthur's arrival at Miami hasn't gone as expected. He has only seen action on special teams, and is buried on the depth charts behind true freshmen Sean Spence and Jordan Futch, plus four current seniors and a junior. Basically, the instant playing time he was expecting isn't there.
How amazing would it be for Arthur to ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Missouri Tigers, Miami Hurricanes

Heels coach Davis to make Miami return (AP)

North Carolina coach Butch Davis left Miami eight years ago, prepared his Tar Heels so well that they beat the Hurricanes last season, and has only been on the sidelines at Dolphin Stadium once before. As such, he insists Saturday's matchup between Atlantic Coast Conference foes won't seem like much of a homecoming.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Butch Davis
