Miami Hurricanes at North Carolina Tar Heels

Line: Miami -3 The Butch Davis Bowl takes place for the third time as Miami travels to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina. North Carolina Head Coach Butch Davis used to be the head guy at Miami where he brought the Hurricanes back to national prominence. Current Miami head coach Randy Shannon is looking to do the same and has his team ranked in the top 25 at 7-2. The Hurricanes need a win and a Georgia Tech loss to pull into a tie for the Coastal Division lead. The Tar Heels are looking to extend their winning streak to three games and improve their bowl position after a rough start to the season.

Davis has beaten his old team in the first two meetings since he took over at UNC. The winner of this game will likely move into one of the top four bowl spots while the loser could fall anywhere.

Miami to try for first win ever at UNC (AP)

By reputation, Miami is a football school, North Carolina a basketball school. Makes sense, really: Both have five national championships in those respective sports. So how, then, is it possible that the Hurricanes' basketball team has won at Chapel Hill, but the football program never has? Miami coach Randy Shannon can't figure it out either, and he's challenging the 12th-ranked...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Randy Shannon

Conference call: Clemson on a roll in ACC

Each week, Sporting News' Matt Hayes ranks the Division I-A conferences—and the teams within each league.
3. ACC
1. Georgia Tech
2. Clemson
3. Virginia Tech
4. Miami
5. Boston College
6. North Carolina
7. Duke
8. Wake Forest
9. Florida State
10. N.C. State
11. Virginia
12. Maryland
Rising
Clemson: Even the recent history of underachieving can't stop this train. Riding a four-game winning streak, the Tigers need another victory at N.C. State on Saturday, and maybe against Virginia the following week, to clinch the Atlantic Division and play for the league championship.
Falling
Florida State: If things weren't bad enough in Tallahassee, there's this: With QB Christian Ponder (shoulder) out for the season, the 'Noles won't win again. That's a mighty ugly 4-8 record for iconic coach Bobby Bowden.
