South Florida Bulls Fall in UConn's Winter Wonderland

You have to give the South Florida Bulls plenty of credit. On a snowy winter's night in Connecticut, in chilly temperates, and with a motivated Connecticut football team chipping away at them, they did not roll over and die. They did not roll over Saturday night and give it up easily like they did the previous week at home against Miami. They didn't pack it in, although this was not their kind of weather. They didn't complain although their coach, Jim Leavitt, did all that earlier in the week. Nope, these Bulls fought hard and with just 40 seconds left on the clock, their leader, B.J. Daniels dove into the end zone for a touchdown, his third of the night that gave his Bulls a 27-26 lead over UConn. Surely USF might hold on and steal a Big East victory in December on the road. Surely they would and they would avoid another losing record in the conference. Surely they didn't. With so little time and a do-or-die circumstance staring at them, the Huskies took the kickoff to their own 44 ...

South Florida guard Anthony Crater has been suspended after failing a second drug test and the school is being investigated by the NCAA, according to a report citing unidentified sources. FanHouse.com reported Thursday that Carter will miss 20 percent of the season once he becomes eligible on Dec. 12. Carter had been sitting out after transferring from Ohio State. The report said that Carter also failed a drug test when he was with the Buckeyes.

That team from South Florida, the University of Miami, beat that team from Tampa, the University of South Florida and if you think that's confusing, you should have seen the USF defense. Miami (9-3), aka "The U," beat the "USF" (7-4) like a drum Saturday in front of a sellout crowd at Raymond James Stadium. It was 31-10 and it seemed much worse. Miami dominated this game in every way a game can be dominated. Both Miami lines were too physical for USF, Miami forced its will on the Bulls and there was never a doubt how it would turn out. USF is a simple team to figure out and Miami had no problem. Stop B.J. Daniels and USF is done. Miami stopped B.J. Daniels and everyone else USF tried to throw at the 'Canes. Daniels completed only six passes for 77 yards and he ran for just 39. That's a far cry from the 445 yards he amassed Louisville on the same field last week.
