SU destroys Canisius in first round of NCAA Tourney
SU destroys Canisius in first round of NCAA Tourney
Some people say that the Orange went from second seed in the NCAA Men's lacrosse tournament to third because of the loss to Colgate. I wonder what those same people would say of Syracuse (13-2) now, after they beat Canisius (10-6) by the score of 20-3 in the first round of the tourney.

There are certain games that you just think there shouldn't be a loser in them. The one between Syracuse (21-32) and Connecticut (28-21) is one of them, going well into extra innings, nine to be exact.

Here is some more news from the WNBA regarding ex Syracuse players and once again it is not good. A while back I wrote in a blog about Fantasia Goodwin being cut by her team, the Detroit Shock.

Is NCAA Lacrosse Ready To Grow Up Yet?
Is NCAA Lacrosse Ready To Grow Up Yet?
And you thought the committee that determines the NCAA Basketball Tournament was bad? Imagine a #1 seed had to play a #8 seed in the 2nd round of the basketball tournament in the home city of the #8 seed? Wouldn't they throw an epileptic fit and the rules would be changed quicker than Dick Vitale could put Duke and North Carolina in his preseason Top 5 for next year?

Marie Fleming (Ernie Davis' mother) passes away
Marie Fleming (Ernie Davis' mother) passes away
This is a story that I didn't want to blog about, but I have to since I do try to cover as much as possible of Syracuse University. This is about the passing of Marie Fleming. For those of you that don't know who is she, Marie Fleming was the mother of Heisman winner Ernie Davis.

Ernie Davis' Mother Passes Away
This is one of those times when the news just really takes the wind out of your sails. Just months short of seeing her son's story immortalized in theaters around the country, Marie Fleming, the mother of Ernie Davis, has passed away. According to her nephew, she died after a bad fall.

Fight For Your Right To Develop Tendonitis Prematurely
Fight For Your Right To Develop Tendonitis Prematurely
If nothing else, DOCTOR Daryl Gross is an attentive e-mailer. As we've seen in the past, if you really want to get something done in Orangeland, go straight to the source. Gross is happy to answer all of your assumedly good-natured requests, or at least CC the person who can. One intrepid message boarder decided to e-mail the good doctor in regards to amping up the crowd at home basketball games

SU splits series with Notre Dame
SU splits series with Notre Dame
It did not look good for Syracuse (21-31, 12-10 in the BE), who had lost the first game to Notre Dame (37-19-1, 14-8 in the BE) by the score of 8-0 and were losing 7 to 3 in the second game.

Syracuse upset in last game of the season
Syracuse upset in last game of the season
I have to give credit to Brent Axe, who called the possibility that this game could be an upset. I personally didn't think the Orange would be denied this season, but in the end Colgate was able to squeak by SU.

Carrier Dome full? Only in your EA dreams!
Let me say this, I hope that EA Sports can predict the future. Because the picture that is in the newest college football game, NCAA Football 09, shows a packed house at the Carrier Dome.

Two Seed Or Not Two Seed, That Is The Question
Two Seed Or Not Two Seed, That Is The Question
In the Coaches Poll, the SU Men's Lacrosse team were #1 most of the season but recently slipped to #2 behind Duke. According to the Media, they're #2, barely, again behind Duke. In both cases, they're ahead of Virginia. So why then is it possible that the Orange may be looking at a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament? John Jiloty at the NY Times explains...Another option for the No. 2 seed is Virginia

Just Keep Adding Bowls Until 4-8 Is Good Enough to Qualify
Just Keep Adding Bowls Until 4-8 Is Good Enough to Qualify
Nice find by Jameson at CuseAdelphia, there's some early predictions in for the college bowl games (hey, if we're already seeing Bracketology there's no reason not to see bowl game predictions). While hope springs eternal at Syracuse, that hope hasn't made its way out of Onondaga County just yet as SU is nowhere to be found in the predictions.
