Billy Packer is out and Clark Kellogg is
in for college basketball's marquee event the Final Four.
CBS, the network that carries the NCAA College Basketball Tournament, announced that Packer's 27 year run as the networks top analyst and Kellogg would replace him.
THERE was a lot going on around here
last week, thus when Billy Packer, after 28 years,
left CBS on what seemed to be on business-like, room-temperature mutual terms, a big off-season story was forced off the road. It's a sad story, too, and not...
From the bottom of my heart thank you
CBS! Billy Packer made it hard to watch your
coverage of the NCAA tournament. The little self centered biased prick ruined many outstanding tournament games by not being able to keep his mouth shut.
The sad thing is that he really is
an intelligent basketball mind. His intelligence for the sport,
however, was commonly shielded by his disdain for any team outside of the ACC, foul disposition behind the microphone, and general desire to be a douchebag.
After three decades of torturing fans with his
insufferable prick demeanor, Billy Packer is out at CBS
. Good-bye, Billy. In the words of Peter Venkman (at 3:10 of this fine video clip ), "I'm gonna miss him." Oh, and lest I forget. Praise Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Allah, Buddha, Shiva, Zeus and whatever Gods were important to Zoroastrianism for making this moment possible.
This morning on Mike & Mike in the
Morning and then reading around several places on the
internet it looks like Billy Packer is done at CBS doing the NCAA Tournament. From this article from ESPN (one of many that talks about this subject) the point is clear.
I can’t wait to watch the 2009 NCAA
Tournament. I won't have to listen to the humorless
and joyless Billy Packer ranting endlessly. I won’t have to put up with Packer's pompous declarations. I won't have to frantically search for the mute button when Packer begins to scold the refs, the players and the crowd – but rarely the coaches – for anything that goes wrong on the court.
College basketball commentator Billy Packer, who has announced
34 consecutive Final Fours on network television and created
a few controversies along the way, will not be returning to CBS for a 28th season, The Miami Herald has learned.
Big thanks to Mr. Packer for agreeing to
sport some Tirico Suave flair.
Billy Packer was an institution, but that doesn't
mean we're sad to see him go. Homophobia, cantankerous
comments and blatant bias against the underdog are all reasons this guy should have been gone years ago. Also, anyone who makes us recall perestoika needs to go.
Clark is one of the best and replaces
Billy Packer as Final Four Analyst. Packer and CBS
mutually agreed to this last year. I spoke with Clark recently...
Now all we need is ESPN to do
the same with Joe Morgan and the Angels with
Rex Hudler. Though Clark Kellogg wouldn’t be the replacement of choice. Anyway, the Miami Herald reports that CBS is letting Billy Packer go after 28 years with the ...

Billy Packer's streak of Final Fours is over

I don't think I have ever been so
happy to see a sports commentator go than I
am to see Billy Packer leave CBS. Thank you CBS for finally bringing in a new era of accurate commentating and actually getting with the times. There can't be a basketball mid-major fan out there not happy to see him go after his comments about the 2006 NCAA Tournament, where he bashed not only George Mason but Wichita S

So Billy Packer has been whacked and you
can't contain your enthusiasm. If you're a college basketball
