SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The remaining, active members of
the Syracuse University men's basketball team, already lacking depth
and experienced leadership since the season-ending ACL injures to juniors Andy Rautins and Eric Devendorf, are doing their best to self-inflict their own season-ending ACL injuries to avoid playing in the current season any longer. Freshmen Donte Greene, Jonny Flynn, Scoop ...
Syracuse played a good game, bringing their record
to 13 and 5 (3-2 in the Big East),
as they took care of Rutgers (8-10, 0-5 BE) by the score of 81 to 59. This is the positive side of the story, the negative is that it was Rutgers and it was a home game and if the Orange had lost this game “panic” mode would have hit Central New York faster than Jonny Flynn can run down the court.
At Jim Boeheim's Big Orange Basketball Camp for
boys ages 8-18, you can imagine that fundamentals are
a driving force behind the lessons learned. Hitting your foul shots and limiting turnovers are probably at the core of what Jim teaches. As far as I can tell, there's still room at the camp, and if they're willing to be flexible on the age thing I think we can get Arinze, Donte and Scoop in there
The Don'te Leave T-shirt is the hottest accessory
on Syracuse's campus since the "Who Wants To Sex
Seikely?" T-shirt craze of 1989. But I fear we've lulled ourselves into a false sense of security. Sure, a $17.99 orange piece of fabric is sure to entice Donte Greene to stay one more year at SU, but will he have any teammates left when he comes back? Are you so sure Jonny Flynn isn't moving ...
Syracuse lost a heart breaker 64-62 to Georgetown
in overtime last night, with Jonny Flynn's three pointer
at the buzzer going half way down before rattling out. It was a surprising performance by a young Orange team that has struggled on the road in conference play, and while no one expected them to play so well, it was a game they should have won.
My first S.O.B. Award... You never forget your
first... And this story is a lot like many
of those that begin with that phrase. Both will end with one party calling the other an S.O.B. Let's start with the nominee for Best Photo of a Syracuse ...
To paraphrase Gandalf, And so we come to
it at last...the great decision of our time. Who
have the Syracuse Online Bloggers (compared to the Syracuse Offline Bloggers) decided was the 2007-2008 Most Valuable Player of the Syracuse Men's Basketball team?
Here are all the reasons you need to
root for the New Orleans Hornets tonight.
I know that most of the pre-season rankings
never stand up, and imagine when the rankings are
done about a year minus a week from when things are supposed to happen. But, this is the Y2K era and in this era of multimedia outlets, you know that each ranking and Top 25 or 50 or 100 is worth looking at.
Is the Syracuse basketball program better off in
the long run by faltering this season? Would we
be better off if the team failed to meet expectations? Would it cause Donte Greene (and Jonny Flynn) to shove off any notion of going pro so they can stay at least a little while longer and if so, wouldn't it be worth it?
Syracuse's win over Providence Sunday afternoon at the
Carrier Dome gets the Orange back into the mix
for an NCAA tournament bid.
Three things. One, you didn't think the headband-under-the-cowboy-hat
look could be pulled off, but you were wrong.
Two, even in in the old timey Wild West, Justin Thomas is just happy to be involved. Three, I am now realizing that an Intro to Photoshop class would have done me some good.
Ken Pomeroy runs a statistical website that breaks
down many different things in basketball and is a
site I refer to a lot. He has a list of different individual stats that you won't see in the box score. Well it seems Pomeroy has fixed Syracuse's ...
In a season that started out with grand
expectations for Donte Greene and Jonny Flynn, Paul Harris
was beginning his second season with the Orange and for many he was already considered an afterthought. It didn't help when Greene and Flynn put up big numbers and Harris seemed to add decent but not spectacular points and rebounds. A year removed from expectations that he was the next Carmelo, he se
A recap of the Syracuse - Robert Morris
NIT game from last night. God the NIT sucks.
I've been spending a lot of time talking/reading/debating
about what the future holds for this basketball team.
It may be something that should be left alone for a while, but when you love college ball like I do you can't stop talking about it even after their season is over.
One thing that I have always shook my
head at when listening to Bud Poliquin is the
fact that he likes to tell anyone that is listening to the radio show he co-hosts that people who think that student-athletes that play at the college level get tired are nuts.
Chad Ford's potential lottery picks for this upcoming
NBA draft is lead by freshmen. That list includes
Greene one of the first lottery picks and in a section of honorable mention players Jonny Flynn's name is mentioned. A double gut/sack punch for us 48 hours removed from that Georgetown game.
Paul Harris devoured Villanova yesterday, and for some
dessert Syracuse fans were treated to an excellent Belgian
Waffle. For the Syracuse Orange, the 87-73 win over Villanova was a huge boost to the team's confidence and it keeps hopes of making the NCAA tournament alive
