Highlights from college football, hoops

Just got out to the coast for the final game of the Charlie Weis era when Notre Dame plays Stanford tomorrow night.

Am watching Boise State dismantle Nevada, 20-0, early in the second quarter. Don't tell me Broncs don't belong in the BCS.

We've been touting St. John's junior forward D.J. Kennedy as Norm Roberts' first pro and Kennedy continues to blow up, scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as the Red Storm improved to 4-0 with 77-68 victory over Siena at the Palestra. Nice to see Johnnies back in one of my favorite buildings.

Alabama rallied to defeat Auburn, 26-21, today to improve record to 12-0, but running back Mark Ingram didn't do much for Heisman hopes with only 30 yards in 16 carries.

Ingram also suffered a hip injury and will be evaluated. Bama needs him next Saturday against Florida in SEC title game in Atlanta.

Rutgers got back to normal, throttling Louisville, 34-14, on the road to win their record to 8-3. Look for Cards to make a coaching change.
Even with injuries, St. John's has quality depth

                    Mike DeCourcy, Sporting News

St. John's coach Norm Roberts has plenty of practice waiting on injured players to heal, and he's learned that pining for them doesn't help a team win games.
So even though he'll welcome back injured veteran Anthony Mason when he recovers from his hamstring injury, Roberts said, "We have enough bodies. We're much more talented and much deeper. Mase will really add to that when he comes back."
Mason, who missed nearly all of last season with a foot injury, has at least two more weeks of rehab and then will be evaluated with an MRI test.
In the absence, and also that of junior F Rob Thomas, the Red Storm won their first three games with 10 players averaging double-figure minutes. Thomas has been practicing and is considered "day-to-day," according to Roberts. His status for Friday's game against Siena at Philadelphia's Palestra had not yet been established.
Roberts said his one ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Norm Roberts
