The BCS: The Destroyer of Sportsmanship

In the ten years of the BCS, we all have come to see many things. They come in many forms whether it be deserving teams left out of the BCS, undeserving teams admitted in the games, or coaches lobbying for poll position towards the end of November.
Many things are certain in college football. One team may beat another, or one team may be the best team in the nation, but the BCS has the power to keep that team in or out by computer numbers (as well as other human poll factors).
The thing that is becoming more and more of a common occurrence is the fact that teams trying to make ground in the polls are obliterating opponents.
For example, this year's Florida team has been absolutely dominating teams and the reward has been a six spot jump since the initial BCS polls came out. This team may not need lobbying like Urban Meyer had to do in 2006 when there was a high consideration for a Michigan/Ohio St. rematch, but heck it could never hurt.
Also, USC has struggled ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Florida Gators, Bowl Championship Series, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Randy Shannon, Steve Spurrier

Stoops set to meet ex-assistant Leach (AP)

To compare Bob Stoops and Mike Leach at first seems like a study in opposites. One is the son of a football coach who built his reputation on a stingy, aggressive defense and puts forth a straight-laced persona that rarely cracks. The other started out admiring the game from the stands, got his law degree before rising in the coaching ranks and then constructed the most productive offense of the...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Mike Leach, Bob Stoops

A Break Down of Texas Tech at Oklahoma

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Norman will be center of college football next Saturday, Nov. 22nd. Fans from all over the country will be interested for various reason in this dynamic duo of No. 2 at No. 5.
Texas Tech is undefeated which will cause many to pull for Oklahoma, namely those residing in the Penn State and USC districts of the country—though a Texas Tech loss will most likely not change the much anticipated "Big 12 versus SEC" BCS championship game, it would be a step forward for the Big Ten and Pac-10.
There will also be the oblivious viewer who knows very little about college football—these viewers will be watching the game simply because they heard it will be an air show to rival the Blue Angels. Both teams score a lot...an average of about 50 points a game for each team. The bottom line it will be an exciting for the fans and it should be a close one.
Finally there are ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Oklahoma Sooners, Bob Stoops

Is Bo Pelini Nebraska's Bob Stoops?

Bob Stoops and Bo Pelini.
You have to admit, if you examine the similarities, it gets eerie.
But let me start from the beginning.
Both men grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, and graduated from the same high school, Cardinal Mooney High (Stoops in 1978, Pelini in 1986).
Both men were defensive players in the secondary for Big Ten schools (Stoops at Iowa, Pelini at Ohio State), where both men got marketing degrees.
Both men began their coaching careers as graduate assistants at Iowa under Hayden Fry, several years apart.
After Iowa, Stoops coached in college football as a defensive coach under Bill Snyder at Kansas State and under Steve Spurrier at Florida. Then Stoops was hired as the head coach at the University of Oklahoma in 1999.
After Iowa, Pelini coached quarterbacks at Cardinal Mooney for a season, then started a successful coaching stint in the NFL with the 49ers (two years, and Super Bowl XXIX victory), Patriots (three years) and Packers (three years). Then Pelini was ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Bob Stoops, Bo Pelini, Oklahoma Sooners
