Now that head coach Butch Davis and his
staff are out on the recruiting trail I felt
it was time to look at the past season and offer my thoughts on the year that was.
Kudos to Syracuse for lining up some very
nice ways to honor Ernie Davis this past weekend.
As if the week-long celebration and the premiere of The Express wasn't enough, the school also announced that the new dorm on campus would be known as Ernie ...

All-America DE candidate Bruce Davis headlines 20 returning
starters while Ben Olson has rebounded from last season's
knee injury to solidify the quarterback position again. UCLA plays only six games in the Rose Bowl this year but a favorable road ...
There’s been a big discussion questioning if this
team, under the watchful eyes of Butch Davis and
his staff, was anything different than the prior editions of Carolina football. Well, if the fans have anything to say about it, and not in words but in facts (or in this case attendance), the answer is definitely yes.
Hey, I don't know how many people noticed,
but there was a scout at the homecoming game
yesterday from Tennessee and I'm assuming that he was watching Davis. This could possibly mean that Collins may be retiring after this year, or they're not sure ...
For the Tar Heels on Saturday the first
one is over and done. The first scrimmage that
is. From what I have read around the internet it seems that it went pretty well, especially considering that the pre-season is not even two weeks old.
Well, it's finally time to begin the focus
on the game against McNeese State. As will happen
every Tuesday before the game there will be First Thoughts, a blog where I will just give some thoughts about the game.
After the weather delayed the game for over
100 minutes (1 hour and 48 minutes to be
exact), North Carolina (1-0) and McNeese State (0-1) finished their game, with the Heels coming in on top by the score of 35 to 27.
Tonight, when North Carolina will play Rutgers in
Piscataway, New Jersey, a lot more than a win
or a loss are at stake. The Tar Heels haven't won outside of the state of North Carolina in their last twenty tries, with their last victory going back to October 2002.
Syracuse coach Greg Robinson is as good as
gone. It's astonishing how bad the Orangemen have become
over the last couple of years. The latest rumor has embattled Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin as a potential replacement. Kiffin could be...
The season began with a so-so performance, or
we could even say, a sub par one. But
the following game the season elevated itself quickly with a decisive win versus Rutgers on the road. Now it's the third game, vs Virginia Tech, and this should be a great one.
Both of these football teams have had 7
games decided by a touchdown of less. Yet UVA
is 6-1, while UNC is 2-5 in such games. The difference for them in these close games in the difference between being bowl ineligible and controlling one's destiny in the ACC coastal. We're going to see where the 9-2 Cavaliers have succeeded and the 3-7 Tar Heels have failed in these close games.
Yes, by all means North Carolina is not
in the Top Ten, it's not in the Top
25, but it has received votes and for me that is a great start for the Tar Heels.
A lot of people that follow the North
Carolina football team are very hyped for this team,
with the media thinking they are the second best in their division. But, even with all the hype there is that disconcerting feeling because the young man who led the team last year, T.J. Yates, had shoulder surgery that kept him out of spring ball.
Last year there was Matt Ryan, and so
the Atlantic Coast Conference could say they had a
top notch quarterback among its players. But now, with Ryan in the NFL trying to fix the mess called the Atlanta Falcons, this season the ACC doesn't have a star QB to show off to the rest of the college world. And that is why for North Carolina this could be a great year.
(Ed. Note: Yes, I am aware I am
also a stupid loser. Carry on.) Roy Williams scraped
the shameful layer of Doughtery off of Carolina basketball and brought back a national title, albeit with someone else’s players, to Chapel Hill. So ...
Usually on a Sunday evening I am not
doing much surfing around the internet. I spend time
watching some television or something else. However today I was doing my surfing and found this shirt and I just had to shake my head thinking that this is nuts.
Even if a bit late I never posted
the media's ACC All-Conference team. While there isn't that
many North Carolina players, you have to like the fact that Hakeem Nicks is going to be a force in the ACC this year, as will his team mate Brandon Tate.
It took a while but finally I found
someone that was willing to come on board my
lil ole blog and be a weekly interview for the North Carolina Tar Heels. An ex member of the media, nicnamed himself for this blog The Pulse of the South , he has loved following/watching the Atlantic Coast ...
After a day of wondering how all the
hype from the North Carolina football team turned into
a squad that was way below what most so-called experts/analysts believed, I have now come to a very simple conclusion. Saturday's game, because at the end of the line Carolina did win, doesn't matter.
