It has been a long time since 22nd
ranked North Carolina (4-1) has been in the Top
25. The last time it happened, seven years ago, the Heels next game was a loss. With Notre Dame (4-1) coming into Kenan, wanting to be in the polls as well, if the Heels do not play an "A" game history might repeat...
/ / / October 8, 2008 by Roger
Ebert "The Express" is involving and inspiring in the
way a good movie about sports almost always is. The formula is basic and durable, and when you hitch it to a good story, you can hardly fail. Gary Fleder does more ...
Tomorrow North Carolina will play a very tough
game at Kenan Stadium, one that if they win
will solidify their stay in the Top 25 and show them as a legitimate team in college football.
It was two years ago when Notre Dame
was in the midst of a BCS season and
North Carolina was right at the bottom of the ACC. Two years later the roles have changed as Notre Dame hits the road for only the second time in 2008 this coming Saturday, this time against a potential BCS team, as crazy ...
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A movie about the first
African-American to win college football's Heisman Trophy includes a
dramatic scene from Morgantown, where fans hurl garbage and racial epithets at the player and his Syracuse teammates. However, the ugly ...
So it turns out Notre Dame also has
a receiver/kick returner with the last name Tate, and
he's pretty good as well. Fellow SBNationite Rakes of Mallow compares the two , and Brandon Tate comes out on top thanks in part to Davis's willingness to ...
With every passing week, as my attention shifts
from the game just played to the one that
is going to be played next, I make my theories/ideas known with the weekly post on the "Fifth Corner" called "First Thoughts".
After a great game played by the North
Carolina Tar Heels and what I have to believe
was a great game plan installed by the coaching staff, Butch Davis and his team are now ranked. I went and found my good friend "The Pulse of the South" to ask him about the game and what he thought was good and bad
College bands that marched into trouble Over the
years, college marching bands have been disciplined because of
problematic behavior. Here, from Chronicle reports and published accounts, is a roundup: Stanford University: -- Suspended for trashing the ...
Given its context, the Ball State’ s 31-0
pasting of the Toledo Rockets hardly seemed that important
- how big of a deal could beating a 1-4 team be. But after looking at today’s AP poll, you can see why the Cardinals’ win was so ...
After the great performance against Connecticut the Tar
Heels can now say that they are ranked once
again, something that hadn't happened since 2001.
Well, in the UConn vs UNC: The Preview
I said that the Tar Heels needed to stay
away from penalties. Anyone that watched the game saw that a personal foul cost Carolina a touchdown.
With just a bit less than an hour
to the UConn/UNC game it is time for me
at "The Fifth Corner", to give the "Last Thoughts" for this match up. As anyone that follows this site, in this post it is where I give random tidbits about what I think of the game coming up.
First response: Why??? Second response: Well this is
not necessarily a bad idea. Here’s why: 1. Paulus
needs experience and has too much potential to simply toss aside The general consensus is that Mike Paulus is chock full of ...
Quarterbacks: Kevin Riley is a work in progress.
Although his pass protection isn’t quite as good as
we’d like it to be, and his receivers have dropped some catchable balls (including one touchdown) he’s still underthrowing ...
'Q package' falls out of favor
While at North Carolina head coach Butch Davis
is riding pretty high, looking around at one of
my favorite web sits, Coaches Hot Seat, you can see that two other coaches in the ACC can not say the same.
As you’ve now seen from 800,000 different news
sources, Paul Newman died from cancer at the age
of 83 this weekend. Few people have kicked ass at life the way Newman did. When he wasn’t playing badasses, loners, or rogues in movies, ...
I went over to one of my daily
stops for UNC reading, Tar Heel Fan and read
about the North Carolina/Miami game. In it was a sentence or two about a friend of his texting him saying that Carolina had gotten lucky. I disagree.
"Raise 'em High!" That is all I can
say, truthfully. For an old Heel like me, who
has watched game in and game out of this team for a very, very long time I thought about so many things as this Butch Davis led team fought on Saturday.
Butch Davis returns to Miami and gets a
win.Final play of the game.
This is a funny scene from Butch Cassidy
and the Sundance Kid
If there was a time that I can
eat crow and be happy it is today. What
a game! In the end, when it was all said and done, North Carolina (3-1, 1-1 in the ACC), who had lost 20 games in a row out of the state, beat Miami (2-2, 0-1 in the ACC) on the road 24 to 21.
We lost a legend last night and Heaven
gained one of the greatest talents ever to grace
the screen. Paul Newman lost his battle to cancer. He was 83. If you've never listen to anything I have said here over the months that I've been doing this thing, listen just this once: Go to whatever ...
When you get to the bottom of the
match up between the Tar Heels and the `Canes
the thing that is still left is: will North Carolina be able to run the ball against a team that is in ranked 17th against the run.
when you are winning the problems are well
hidden. Unfortunately UNC didn't win the game, and they
lost their starting qb as well. Now, with a road game against the team that was once home to Butch Davis, this squad needs to find a leader and a path.
CHAPEL HILL, NC: Butch Davis today announced
that he would suspend the 2008 college football season
on Thursday and seek a delay until at least mid-November so that he could return to Washington to try to forge a consensus on a financial bailout package. “I am calling on the ...
Both Mike Paulus and Cam Sexton will play
quarterback for UNC against Miami on Saturday, UNC coach
Butch Davis said Wednesday. Davis still hasn't named a starter for the Tar Heels road trip to Miami and first game without starter T.J. Yates, who is ...
From a small blog by Heather Dinich at
ESPN blogs comes word that head coach Butch Davis
will be using both back up quarterbacks when the Tar Heels face the `Canes on Saturday.
North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates has a broken
left ankle and is expected to miss at least
six weeks. Coach Butch Davis ...
A completely, 120% factual account of what really
happened in the second half at the UNC-Virginia Tech
game, as told by Mike Paulus.
Take one part bad luck, two parts bad
penalties, one part inexperienced quarterback, one part bad timing
mistakes and one part not being lucky and that is the recipe for disaster that today North Carolina (2-1, 0-1 in the ACC) had against Virginia Tech (3-1, 2-0 in the ACC).
With just a bit more than an half
hour to go it is time to do my
"Last Thoughts" for what could truly be one of the most important games for these young Tar Heels this season.
The season began with a so-so performance, or
we could even say, a sub par one. But
the following game the season elevated itself quickly with a decisive win versus Rutgers on the road. Now it's the third game, vs Virginia Tech, and this should be a great one.
Dealing with Tyrod Taylor If you watched Virginia
Tech play Georgia Tech this past weekend, you understand
that the Hokies’ offense boils down to not much passing and a whole lot of running. A good chunk of that running will come from ...
We posted earlier in the day an item
from the Buffalo News linking Raiders coach Lane Kiffin
to the expected vacancy at fallen football power Syracuse. But, as an NFL source pointed out to us later in the day, there’s a potential ...
