Texas Longhorns Should Bull-Rush the Staggering UTEP Defense

The Texas Longhorns—in a game that thought to be potentially problematic for the Longhorns—rolled over the overmatched Florida Atlantic Owls in their debut last Saturday against the, 52-10.
FAU coach, Howard Schnellenberger, referred to this Texas team as soft. Coach Schnellenbereger soon learned the same lesson that Rudy Carpenter and Arizona State learned last January, don't give this Texas team a reason to come out fired up.
Colt McCoy looked very much like the freshman McCoy Texas fans grew to love. He was sharp all night, going 24-29 for 222 yards and three touchdowns. The Texas gunslinger made good reads and never forced the ball down field.
On the night the legendary Vince Young had his jersey enshrined into Texas lore, McCoy did his best VY impression, running for 103 yards on 12 carries, scoring a touchdown. In fact, McCoy was the leading rusher for either team. The coaching staff said during spring practice that McCoy's ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Texas Longhorns, Colt McCoy, UTEP Miners, Mack Brown

College Football Awards: Week 1

Everyone loves the award season at the end of the year, but you never hear any mention of any awards outside of The Heisman as the season progresses, or at least not until the finalists are released.
I thought, well why not issue week to week winners of all the awards. Plenty of sites award Helmet Stickers and POW nominations but I'm going the extra step. Each week I will issue not watch lists or finalists but the winners of the Week by Week Awards for all 18 Major D-1 Awards. Heisman Memorial Trophy: Colt McCoy, QB - Texas 24/29 - 222 yards - 3 TDs/0 INTs - 181.2 QB Rating - 12 Rushes - 103 yards - 1 TD Maxwell Award: Pat White, QB - West Virginia 25/33 - 208 yards - 5 TDs/1 INT - 172.65 QB Rating - 9 Rushes - 63 yards Walter Camp Award: Colt McCoy, QB - Texas 24/29 - 222 yards - 3 TDs/0 INTs - 181.2 QB Rating - 12 Rushes - 103 yards - 1 TD Dick Butkus Award: Obi Ezeh, LB - Michigan 8 Solo Tackles - 15 Total Tackles - 1.5 Tackles for Loss - 1 INT Outland Trophy: Jake Ebner, DT - Houston 2 ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Colt McCoy

Hope in College Football Longhorn Edition

So here are my top ten hopes for the upcoming Longhorn Football season. Please read my other article: Hope in College Football: The Top 25 Edition.
 10. I hope we develop a homefield advantage. With the added seats, their closer proximity to the field and a lot of enthusiasm regarding change in the stadium over the last 2 years, I hope the fans finally get loud and crazy enough to actually make a difference.
We've always been one of the quieter crowds in CFB relative to our size. There are a lot of things that the SEC tries to hold over our head, but the only one that I'm truly envious of is their stadium atmosphere. Get up fans and don't sit until at least halftime! Make some noise!
 9. I hope Colt McCoy returns to freshman form at the very least. I really feel like this guy could be a Heisman finalist with some protection from the O-line, a commitment to play within himself, and a little help from some talented yet untested skill players (minus ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Colt McCoy, Texas Longhorns

Texas Longhorns Position Preview: Offensive Line

Position Rating: B Starters: Adam Ulatoski, Charlie Tanner, Chris Hall, Cedric Dockery, Kyle Hix Reserves: Tray Allen, David Snow, Buck Burnette, Michael Huey, Britt Mitchell
2007 was a rough season for the Texas offensive line. After several seasons of dominant line performance, injuries and inexperience meant major struggles at times last year. Those struggles last year should prepare the group for 2008, as all five starters started at least one game last season.
With veterans such as Adam Ulatoski and Cedric Dockery supported by future stars like Kyle Hix, the group finally has both talent and experience. This means the offensive line could be a strength in 2008. If they can stay healthy it will mean a more consistent and explosive offense and possibly a return of the 2006 version Colt McCoy , something every Longhorn fan can get excited about.
See more in depth analysis of the Texas offensive line at BevoSports.com...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Texas Longhorns, Colt McCoy
