The daughter of famous sportswriter Dan Jenkins, we find her view from the distaff side of the aisle interesting, although we do frequently disagree with her opinions. Jenkins’ column in Wednesday’s Washington Post was no different for T.A.H., as she applauded Boston College’s firing of their head football coach, saying, among other things: “More than one morally supple sham has noisily demanded commitments from his players, while failing to live up to his own, and Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski is hardly the first coach to treat a signed contract like a disposable tissue. A poll on FOXSPORTS.com shows that 75 percent of respondents (over 130,000 votes cast) believe that Boston College football head coach Jeff Jagodzinski should not be fired. The reason being coaches interview for other jobs all the time. (For the record, Jagodzinski was indeed fired after interviewing for the New York Jets head coaching job without discussing it first with his current employers.) Let's stop here for a second and review the reason why Jagodzinski should not be fired. Coaches interview for other jobs all the time. Come again? Look, I don't begrudge Jagodzinski for looking to move up the ladder into a pro coaching job with the New York Jets, but the amount of movement in college and pro football of coaches is getting ridiculous. A contract means nothing anymore. In baseball, a contract is a contract. You don't see Joe Torre bolting the New York Yankees midseason to coach USC, like you saw Bobby Petrino bolt on the Atlanta Falcons to return to college. In fact, it's so rare to see a ...

Head coach Jeff Jagodzinski of Boston College's football team was told a couple of days ago that under no circumstances was he to interview with the New York Jets: If he did, then he would be canned. Jagodzinski called Boston College's bluff and paid the price. Today, it was announced that Jagodzinski was fired with three years remaining on his employment contract with the school. Some, mostly Jagodzinski supporters, might say that Jagodzinski's termination was unfair. Being an NFL head coach is the highest level that a coach can obtain. With an opportunity to coach for an NFL team, why wouldn't Jagodzinski jump at the chance to do so? Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo hired Jagodzinski under the belief that the coach wanted to be at Boston College for the length of the contract and not as a temporary gig before getting into the big leagues. I am taking this post in two different directions, but in the interest of brevity I will make sure that both directions are short and both lead to the same conclusion… The New York Jets should not hire Jeff Jagodzinski. Direction 1: Why Did Boston College Fire Him? Jagodzinski was fired after two years as the head coach of BC. In those two years he made it to the ACC Championship game twice and also made Matt Ryan the most sought after QB in the 2008 rookie class. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Jagodzinski did nothing but succeed at BC. There is absolutely no way that meeting the Jets caused this firing. I call it the Jermaine O’Neal rule. Jermaine O’Neal destroyed his knee by awkwardly sliding as he punched a Detroit Pistons fan in the face. The Jeff Jagodzinski saga reached its anticipated conclusion today, as the Boston College coach was fired by his school, the Boston Globe is reporting. A news conference is set for 3 p.m. on the campus. Jagodzinski's crime? Wandering eyes and deceit. He agreed to interview for the Jets' head-coaching vacancy and lied to school officials, who found out from a newspaper reporter. They issued an ultimatum, saying he'd be fired if he went on the interview. And he did, meeting yesterday with the Jets in Florham Park, N.J. Interesting nugget: I heard that Jagodzinski enlisted former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi to help him prepare for the interview. Jagodzinski isn't a serious candidate, although the Jets might consider him for the offensive-coordinator job down the road. Chances are, he'll take the same position with the Seahawks. Weird stuff, huh?
