After disappointing seasons, Louisville, Akron axe coaches

                    Dave Curtis

Louisville and Akron each made coaching changes Saturday morning, sources with knowledge of the athletic departments at both schools confirmed to Sporting News.
Cardinals Coach Steve Kragthorpe is out after a third straight subpar season. Kragthorpe went 4-8 this season and 15-21 overall, failing to capitalize on predecessor Bobby Petrino's success. Louisville, expected to contend in the Big East in Kragthorpe's first season before stumbling toward the cellar the last two, has lost three straight games to Rutgers and two out of three to Syracuse. The Cards went 1-6 in conference this season.
Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, Houston Coach Kevin Sumlin, and Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain could be candidates for the Louisville job. It's the first head coaching opening this season at a school in a BCS automatic bid conference.
J.D. Brookhart and his staff at Akron were dismissed Saturday as well. ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Louisville Cardinals, Steve Kragthorpe
