UConn's Edsall not talking about Notre Dame job

Connecticut coach Randy Edsall isn't saying whether he's talked to Notre Dame about replacing Charlie Weis. Edsall and South Carolina's Steve Spurrier met with reporters Thursday at a news conference for the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. Asked whether he'd interviewed for the coaching job at Notre Dame as some media reports indicate, Edsall said he won't comment on rumors or speculation about any other job. Spurrier wasn't as hesitant, though.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is in line for another contract extension. University president Harris Pastides and athletic director Eric Hyman said Tuesday they will recommend a one-year contract extension for Spurrier to the school's board of trustees, which must approve the recommendation.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney got a bit of encouragement for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game from a rival. Swinney said Tuesday that South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier told him to keep his head up after the Gamecocks 34-17 win in the rivalry game this past weekend. "He was great," Swinney said.

Clemson Tigers Forget To Show Up Against South Carolina Gamecocks

The rivalry has been alive since the 1880s and Clemson has dominated the nine of the past 10 meetings at Williams Brice Stadium. Unfortunately, it looks like the Tigers forgot their purpose on Saturday. This is the 107th time the two teams have faced each other and Clemson fans were definitely disappointed after the match. Clemson suffered a few bad turnovers and could not overcome them. It seemed as the game went on, more stuff kept going wrong and the team could not get their act together. Many of the South Carolina fans say it serves us right after all of the bragging we have done since the last time they won in 2006. This win was also big for Steve Spurrier, who has not done anything for the Gamecocks all season before the game. Clemson's Heisman contender, C.J. Spiller, did not have his best game either, which may seriously affect his chances at the trophy. This was an unfortunate end to the regular season.
