Giants' Pierce out indefinitely with neck injury

New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is out indefinitely after an MRI exam surprisingly revealed a bulging disk in his neck. The Giants said their defensive captain underwent the test Friday in New York and was examined by team physician Dr. Russell Warren and Dr. Frank Camissa, chief of the spinal surgical services at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The 31-year-old Pierce originally sustained a burner when the Giants played Arizona on Oct. 25.

Cardinals Brace for Rams' Steven Jackson

In this weekend's game between Arizona and St. Louis, the focal point for the Cardinals will be containing Steven Jackson, who has averaged five yards per carry while topping 130 yards in each of his last three games, and is only 85 yards shy of going over 1,000 for the fifth straight season. If they can do that, stopping the Rams' passing game should be fairly easy. St. Louis has lost two of its top three receivers to IR and is now down to practice squad warriors, outside of second-year wideout Donnie Avery. Marc Bulger and Kyle Boller have combined for only seven touchdown passes in nine games. Although Arizona is still ranked in the Top 10 against the run, it has stumbled as of late. Against Carolina the Cardinals were gashed for 270 yards and then bled out another 164 to a weak Seattle rushing attack. The Chicago Bears placed backup running back Garrett Wolfe on injured reserve Friday, ending his season. The team listed a kidney injury for Wolfe, who told the Chicago Tribune in a text message that he suffered a lacerated kidney on the opening kickoff of a game against Arizona on Nov. 8. The Bears elevated running back Kahlil Bell from the practice squad to replace Wolfe. Wolfe carried the ball 22 times this season for 120 yards and one touchdown.

The NFL announced today that it has slapped Chargers safety Eric Weddle with a $7,500 fine for an ugly, helmet-to-helmet hit on the Giants tight end - - ugly, but still not hard enough to separate Boss from the ball as he held on for a 9-yard catch. According to reports on Friday, two Chicago Bears received fines from the NFL for their actions in the Bears' Week Nine loss to the Arizona Cardinals. However, it appears the league made a mistake and switched the dollar amounts on the respective pink slips. Defensive tackle Tommie Harris was ejected 54 seconds into the game for punching a Cardinals lineman in the face. He was fined $7,500 for the punch. Meanwhile, quarterback Jay Cutler was fined $20,000 for "verbally abusing" an official after it appeared a pass interference call was missed on a crucial fourth down. Cutler was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play. How does Cutler get nearly three-times the fine of Harris when Harris punched another player?
