Kansas City Chiefs-Pittsburgh Steelers: Three Key Matchups for Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off of very different 2008 seasons.
The Steelers, of course, were the Super Bowl Champions, whereas Kansas City finished with only two wins and their second consecutive top-five pick in the draft. A dichotomous matchup between these two teams takes place in week 11 of the NFL season.
The Steelers have “struggled” to a mark of 6-3, in a relative downward spiral from their place atop the NFL. It would be nice to say the Chiefs are also moving in the opposite direction from last year. However, Kansas City mirrors last year’s record with only two wins.
Despite the hoopla surrounding the “Pittsburgh collapse,” and the flurry of commotion regarding the upheaval of the Chiefs organization, this is still a matchup of an elite NFL team versus a basement dweller.
Despite the difference in talent between these two teams, there are still some intriguing matchups that might play a factor if a major upset is in the works.

NFL MVP Favorites Part One: The Overrated

This time of year, the chatter of who will likely take home the NFL's Most Valuable Player trophy begins to heat up.
By the end of the season, it has inevitably crescendoed into a raucous cacophony of "no, MY player's better!" and "your player's over-rated!" rants.
The funny thing is, by the time the award's actually given out, it's ironically an afterthought of sorts.
By that time, teams are deep in the playoff hunt. Home field advantage, sexy storylines and title games captivate more interest in the end.
At this juncture, however, the debate is in full swing with many intriguing twists and turns so far.
This is the first of a two-part list that breaks down all the usual suspects. The stars in today's slideshow are traditional favorites, yes.
But good numbers alone don't merit an MVP. The number one criteria of the award—"where would your team be WITHOUT you?"—bears much significance.
In addition, it should be noted that their inclusion in the "overrated" portion of the list does not ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Tom Brady

The Reason for This Season: Indianapolis Colts Rookie Review

At what point could we have it? The conversation that every diehard Colts fan salivates for?
Is Peyton Manning the best?
...Ever...to throw footballs...on Sundays...?
Right now it’s too early; in fact, I wouldn’t be too surprised if I was chastised for jinxing the Colts and their Golden Boy.
However, there is one reason Colts fans should be especially excited this year. These Colts might be banged up, but they are playing with an energy never before seen in Indy.
For the first time in my memory, the Colts are young—very young. Sure Manning is still there holding everything together while steering his team to a so-far unblemished record. But Colts rookies are contributing in ways unseen since, maybe, 2006, when the Colts had their last money draft .
All these players have contributed or are still contributing, with Antoine Beathea being arguably the best bargain Bill Polian picked up in the seventh round. He had a perfect read on Tom Brady in the Colts-Pats game for a nice interception, ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

NFL Survivor Picks Week 11: Steelers, Patriots, and Cardinals

The New Orleans Saints put last week’s top three picks into a bit of jeopardy with an uneasy win over the St. Louis Rams, but the Saints, along with the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings, gave me a clean sweep in Week 10.
The Ravens pick seemed a bit dodgy on Monday night with the nil-nil tie at halftime against the Browns, but they eventually got interested enough in the game to score and shut out Cleveland.
It is hard to believe I watched that entire game, but I guess that is what fantasy football does for a person.
At least this Monday’s game looks a fair bit better—Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans—and has plenty of fantasy implications, but it's one I would stay far away from for survivor pools.
Let’s get to the three games I would strongly consider for Week 11.

Pittsburgh Steelers over Kansas City Chiefs ( stats )
The Steelers must feel like they are in some kind of alternate reality. They got swept by the Cincinnati Bengals? The Bengals are in first place in their ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Bush held out of practice, questionable vs. Bucs

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush has been held out of practice for the third straight day, and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.

Bush came out of the St. Louis game with swelling and soreness in his left knee, which was surgically repaired twice in a three-month span a year ago.

Saints coach Sean Payton says Bush's knee is bruised and swollen. He says that happens with a knee that has had surgery.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Reggie Bush, St. Louis Rams, Sean Payton

The Chicago Bears placed backup running back Garrett Wolfe on injured reserve Friday, ending his season.

The team listed a kidney injury for Wolfe, who told the Chicago Tribune in a text message that he suffered a lacerated kidney on the opening kickoff of a game against Arizona on Nov. 8.

The Bears elevated running back Kahlil Bell from the practice squad to replace Wolfe.

Wolfe carried the ball 22 times this season for 120 yards and one touchdown.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Chicago Bears, Garrett Wolfe, Arizona Cardinals

49ers Smith Can Still Prove He Was the Right Choice Over Rodgers

Suppose some stranger comes up to you on the street and asks you, the devoted 49ers fan in your throwback Joe Montana jersey, who's better: Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith?
Almost reflexively you answer Rodgers. I mean, really, you don't even think about it for more than a second.
Rodgers has the better numbers, he's had more immediate success, he's never been called a bust, and he was picked within the top three rounds in your fantasy draft.
Smith, by comparison, has a career 12-21 record, has never finished a season with more touchdown passes than interceptions, and wasn't taken at all in most drafts because he opened the season as San Francisco's backup.
In 33 career starts Smith has never thrown for more than 293 yards in any game. In 25 starts Rodgers has exceeded that figure eight times.
The two men will forever be linked by the 2005 draft when the 49ers, with the first pick, chose Smith out of the University of Utah, over local boy Rodgers, who went to Cal.
Yet while their media-driven ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Bengals-Raiders: Bo Knows Raiders Have Dominated This Series

Bengals and Raiders fans: grab a five hour energy drink, your favorite fur coat, and an eye patch and get ready to relive the most exciting three games in series history.
(Writer's note: males are only allowed to wear fur coats if they are crazy, old, have dementia, or are near death, all of which describe Raiders' owner Al Davis, pictured below). And when I say get ready to relive the three most exciting games in history, I'm slightly exaggerating.
These two teams never play in exciting games against each other. It's like watching two blind people play tennis, only less fun.
However, after a week of looking, I think I've found three fun games. Fact to impress drunk people with: Bengals all-time leading scorer Jim Breech spent 13 of his 14 career NFL seasons in Cincinnati. The one that wasn't in Cincinnati: Breech's rookie year of 1979, which he spent with Oakland. All-Time Series: Raiders lead 17-8 in regular season (will be 17-9 after Sunday) and 2-0 in the playoffs.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu did not practice all week because of a left knee injury and will not play Sunday in Kansas City. He may miss the Nov. 29 game at Baltimore as well.

Polamalu sat out the Steelers' second through fifth games with a ligament tear, only to injure the same knee during an 18-12 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.

Polamalu's latest injury is to a different ligament.
Detroit-Cleveland: Both May Be Bad, but Only One City Can Be the Worst

Quick, try to name two Midwest cities with prideful sports fans, faltering economies, freezing cold winters, horrible football teams, and that absolutely hate each other.
Detroit and Cleveland fit that description perfectly.
Detroit was once known as Hitsville U.S.A. and has since been called a Third World Metropolis. Cleveland is the home of the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, yet often is labeled as the Mistake on the Lake.
Cleveland’s economy is centered on LeBron James. Detroit’s economy is currently being funded by government bailouts. And yes, the Lions and Browns are both 1-8 on the season.
Am I the only one who’s jacked up for the game this weekend?
There are a handful of city rivalries that exist in this country, and Detroit and Cleveland is one of them. The records don’t matter; neither does the sport, whether it be Pistons vs. Cavaliers, Indians vs. Tigers, Michigan vs. Ohio State (I know that rivalry takes place out of the respective cities, but the fire is still there), and of ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Is Adrian Peterson Overrated? Not a Chance

Is Adrian Peterson overrated? Not a chance.
How people can even think that the two time Pro Bowler (2008 Pro Bowl MVP) is the slightest bit overrated. Any such notion is completely absurd.
After six teams passed on the fragile, injury prone product from Oklahoma, Peterson has purely dominated in his first two full years in the league. In his young career, he has already begun breaking records and also won the offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2007.
Can someone be over hyped or overrated when you lead the league in rushing during your sophomore season with 1,760 yards? That feat is especially impressive when you consider the Vikings quarterback situation, swapping between Tavaris Jackson and Gus Ferotte.
When defenses put eight in the box and have no respect for the passing game, does an overrated player break the single game rushing record? In Adrian’s eighth game during his rookie season, against a (4-3) San Diego Chargers team, he broke the single game rushing record (296 yards) ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Jaguars S Reggie Nelson was fined $7,500 by the league for a head blow on QB Mark Sanchez in last week's game.

Nelson struck Sanchez with a helmet-to-helmet shot, clearly dazing the rookie. Sanchez stayed in the game, not missing any plays.

NFL Picks of the Week: Week 11

Here are my projections for Week 11:

  Miami: 17 vs. Carolina: 7.
-Miami shuts down the Panthers offense and comes out with a win.
  Indianapolis 20 vs. Baltimore 24.
-Baltimore hands Indianapolis their first loss of the season behind the play of Ray Lewis and the Ravens' defense.
  Washington: 10 vs. Dallas: 31
-Dallas gets back on track by defeating Washington.
  Cleveland: 6 vs. Detroit: 17
-With what could easily turn out to be one of the most boring games this season, Cleveland's offense continues to struggle. Possible Brett Ratliff sighting this week?
San Francisco: 20 vs. Green Bay: 21
-San Francisco continues to come up short when it matters, as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers defeat the 49ers.
  Buffalo: 14 vs. Jacksonville: 35
-Maurice Jones-Drew vs. one of the worse run-defense teams in the league. Enough said.
Pittsburgh: 42 vs. Kansas City: 7
-Pittsburgh just got swept by the Bengals. They're going to want to take that anger out on the Chiefs. Expect ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Coach Jim Zorn praised cornerback Carlos Rogers for responding well in practice this week after having been benched early in the Week 10 victory over the Denver Broncos, but Zorn would not commit to Rogers starting opposite top cornerback DeAngelo Hall on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys at the new Cowboys Stadium. "He could" start, Zorn said. "But right now, we've got a little mix going and we like what we're seeing out there. I like what I'm seeing in Carlos and how he's responding to the situation. "Sometimes it happens where you've just got to bide your time and wait for your next opportunity. I know with Carlos it'll come. And I think he knows it'll come as well." Secondary coach Jerry Gray has been similarly impressed with Rogers's approach this week. "He's responded great. He understands what he has to do and it's nothing new," Gray said. "The

Cincinnati Bengals Week 11 Preview: West Coast Warm-Up Against Raiders

It seems too easy to pile on Al Davis and the Oakland Raider Asylum; that bit has done before, so we'll just skip it altogether.

Instead, the focus this week for the Bengals is preparing for the best thing the Raiders have going for them: their location.

Every week it seems Cincinnati is issued a new challenge to disprove the Same-Old-Bengals Theory. For Week 11, the challenge is to show they can travel to the West Coast and win.

In a sense, flying to Oakland is the practice run for the San Diego game later this season. Instead of arriving on Friday like they normally do when heading west, Marvin Lewis has decided to fly out on Saturday to cut down on jet lag and squeeze in an extra day of practice. How effective that decision becomes will likely determine the team's itinerary for the Chargers game.

The game itself shouldn't be much of an issue for the Bengals. While maintaining a few good defenders, Oakland remains laughably dismal on offense, recently exemplified by the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL

Caronlina Panthers Loss To Miami Dolphins Not Just Another Loss

The Carolina Panthers came into the season with a lot of expectations. After coming off a 12-4 season and losing to Arizona in the playoffs, everyone thought Carolina would look to rebound and have a strong season.
With one of the best two-back running systems in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and a dangerous receiver in Steve Smith, this offense hardly looked like it could be stopped.
They proved us wrong.
For the Panthers, this season has been nothing short of disappointing. After starting the season 0-3, Carolina won the next four out of six before losing last night to Miami 24-17. The Panthers record now stands at 4-6.
But, I'll cut them some slack. They do have the second hardest schedule this season, and have top players to injuries like Pro Bowl left tackle Jordan Gross and linebacker Thomas Davis, who was having a Pro Bowl type season. Not to mention Jake Delhomme's 14 interceptions.
After their loss last night to Miami, Carolina's playoff hopes have taken a big hit, and ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Pro Bowl, Wild Card
