The Cincinnati Bengals Have a Plan

It is no secret that the Cincinnati Bengals have been one of the surprise stories of the 2009 NFL season. They are 8-3, including a 6-0 sweep of the AFC North. What is the difference between this year and the many miserable years that Bengals fans have been forced to endure? What has changed?
Of course, Carson Palmer being under center and remaining relatively healthy has been a huge plus. Palmer missed the final 12 games of 2008 because of an elbow injury. The Bengals are ranked 21st in NFL passing, but having Palmer on the field to direct the offense keeps the threat of throwing the ball alive.
The running game has been excellent, currently ranked seventh in the NFL. Cedric Benson was on his way to a Pro Bowl season before missing the last two games. He still leads AFC running backs in Pro Bowl voting and is expected to start this Sunday against Detroit.
Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard have done a superb job spelling Benson. The signing of Larry Johnson has so far proved to be a good move ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Cincinnati Bengals, Carson Palmer, Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard

Cincinnati Bengals Achieve Divisional Perfection

For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Bengals have posted an undefeated record against division opponents. With sweeps over the Steelers and Ravens already in the books, the Bengals literally ran over the Cleveland Browns today on their way to a 16-7 victory at Paul Brown Stadium.
The Bengals offense was all about running the football. Larry Johnson rushed for 107 yards on 22 carries. Bernard Scott racked up 87 yards on 15 attempts. Carson Palmer seemed out of sync with his corps of receivers. Palmer was under pressure for much of the day and was only able to account for 96 yards in the air.
The Bengals defense was excellent, allowing a season-low 169 yards. Yes, the Browns offense is horrible. I was interested to see if Brady Quinn was really that bad or if he just had no time to throw. Both are true.
I have to comment on Shaun Rogers. I don't like to see anyone get hurt, but the irony is palpable. Rogers was carted off the field after suffering a leg injury. Near the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Cincinnati Bengals, Carson Palmer, Bernard Scott, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers

What Are Cincinnati Bengals Fans Thankful For?

As I celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with my family, I began to think about what I am thankful for regarding the 2009 Cincinnati Bengals. Despite a couple of bumps in the road, the season has been an enjoyable one for Bengals fans. The team is 7-3 and all alone atop the AFC North.
What are Bengals fans thankful for?
    Carson Palmer's Health
Carson Palmer has remained relatively healthy. A lot of credit needs to go to the offensive line. Protecting Palmer was a big concern of mine heading into this season. The line has played well so far. Palmer has shown no signs of the elbow injury that caused him to miss all but four games last year. He has been playing with an injured left thumb, but it has not seemed to bother him. Palmer has also been displaying an ability to move in the pocket and even run the football that we have not seen before.
    Running Game
Cedric Benson is averaging 95 yards per game on the ground. His consistent production has helped transform the Bengals ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Cincinnati Bengals, Carson Palmer, Cedric Benson, Leon Hall, Marvin Lewis

Upsetting Loss for Cincinnati Bengals in Oakland

The titanic struggle between Cleveland and Detroit caused me to miss the beginning of the Bengals game. Since the Browns are a division opponent, I suppose I should have been rooting for the Lions. However, I really didn't care who won the game. I was just glad it didn't go into overtime.
When the local CBS affiliate finally switched to the Bengals and Raiders, it was already 7-0. A solid running game and precise passing by Carson Palmer allowed the Bengals to control the clock in the first half, holding the ball for over 21 minutes. Carson Palmer had two rushing touchdowns, leading the way to a 14-7 halftime advantage for the Bengals.
The Raiders defense is sound. They were in the Bengals backfield all day and hit Palmer hard several times, causing him to fumble the ball once. Except for a 61-yard run by Bernard Scott, they contained the Bengals offense in the second half. Turnovers and penalties didn't help the Bengals offense either.
