Anything that can be said about a bad football team can be said about the Bengals. I can espouse any cliché about blocking and tackling, winning the turnover battle, being tough up front, and/or running the ball—and I’d be right. Football is a simple game. So how does a team that is 0-5 turn things around? The bye week is too far for a season-saving makeover, but the second half of the game in Dallas may be the subtle turning point. At least they made it competitive, right? Here are a few of my impressions from Cincinnati's 31-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. * Way to go, offensive line! For the first time all season the offensive line played pretty well. Carson was only sacked twice on the day and had 217 yards and two touchdowns. * Carson Palmer's only interception of the day was garbage. If it had been any other receiver making a play on the ball it would have been caught. Regardless, I guess it was a nice grab by Greg Ellis. * Cedric Benson, welcome to Cincinnati! I thought Cedric looked good. I think he looked like exactly what this team needs. Every time he carried the ball he ran hard and hit the hole. After spending only a week with the Bengals heading into Sunday, he did very well, and I am very optimistic about what he can do with some more practice. * Chris Perry, five fumbles in five games. As soon as former Texas Longhorns running back Cedric Benson ran into trouble with the law this summer, I joked that it was only a matter of time before the Bears cut him and the Bengals signed him. Hey Mike Brown, I was only kidding. The last couple of seasons, the Bengals have been known more for their transgressions off the field than their quality on it. Former All-SEC linebacker Odell Thurman has failed multiple drug tests and will likely never set foot on the gridiron again. Wide receiver Chris Henry has been booked on DUI and assault charges and released and re-signed by Cincy. Linebacker A.J. Nicholson was caught stealing electronics from a teammate and went on to become a failure in the Arena League. That's quite the rap sheet, and unfortunately for Bengals fans everywhere, it's just the tip of the iceberg. Cedric Benson Getting Another Chance In the NFL; Signs With the Bengals

Cedric Benson was let go by the Chicago Bears due to two separate alcohol-related arrests in Texas. Now though, he is getting another chance to play in the NFL. On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Benson to replace the hole left by running back DeDe Dorsey. Dorsey was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after hurting his hamstring in a 20-12 loss to Cleveland. Benson was drafted by the Bears in 2005 and rushed for 1,593 yards and 10 TDs before being released by the Bears last season. He missed five games last season due to an ankle injury, but rushed for 674 yards. Cedric Benson was arrested in May for operating a boat while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Then in June, he was arrested for drunk driving. Last week, a jury decided not to indict Benson on those charges.

Former Chicago Bear, Cedric Benson, was signed today by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals running backs are thin, with starter Chris Perry averaging 2.9 yard per carry and 52.0 yards per game and backup Kenny Watson averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 10.7 yards per game. They also announced that third string running back DeDe Dorsey is out for the season with a hamstring injury. I guess the running back position couldn't get much worse with the addition of former first round pick Cedric Benson. The Bengals now have two former first round picks at the running back position with Chris Perry from Michigan and Cedric Benson from Texas. We all know what happened last season and this offseason with Benson. The Bears traded Thomas Jones to the Jets and handed their supposedly future star the No. 1 spot. He didn't perform well in his first starting season. He played in 11 games before getting injured against the Broncos for the rest of the year. Running back Cedric Benson signed Tuesday with the Cincinnati Bengals, who needed another runner and were undeterred by two alcohol-related arrests in Texas that prompted the Chicago Bears to let him go. Benson will take the spot of running back DeDe Dorsey, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after hurting his hamstring in a 20-12 loss to Cleveland. Chris Perry is Cincinnati's starting running back. Benson was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Texas.
