Designing The Perfect Wide Reciever

So, if you had the opportunity to build a prototype wide receiver by combining the greatest attributes of the best receivers in the NFL, whose skills would you use? Here are my picks:

 Speed: Devin Hester
Now that Devin is a full time wide receiver, there is little doubt that he is the fastest man at his position in the NFL today. In fact, in a very recent video on NFL.com of the top 10 fastest NFL players of all time, Devin actually appeared on the list, even though he is still very early on in his NFL career. In short, Devin’s ferocious speed makes him a deep threat at any given moment in a game.

 Route Running: Chad Johnson
Without any question, there is no one in the NFL that can run routes better than Chad Johnson. His precision is always immaculate, and his first step in making a cut is as quick as anyone’s in the NFL. In fact, a cable television show known as “Sports Science” did a study to test just how quick Chad could ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Wes Welker, Chad Johnson, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, Devin Hester

Will The Chicago Bears Make The Playoffs Without an Offense?

While looking at the bad teams from last year, there seems to be a running theme: issues at the quarterback position.
Last year’s Chicago Bears team was held hostage by an inept offense. The man who took the lion’s share of the blame was Rex Grossman.
Good Rex was a pretty good deep ball thrower who could, at times, make big plays in bunches. He was able to lead his team to the Super Bowl in 2006, eventually losing to the Indianapolis Colts.
Bad Rex is the quarterback who showed up in the Super Bowl against the Colts, and unfortunately remained for most of the 2007 season. Bad Rex is a turnover machine who doesn’t handle snaps, makes awful decisions, and completely demoralizes his own team.
Needless to say, Bad Rex was a big part of the disappointing 2007 Bears’ season.
This season, Bad Rex is now Benched Rex. He’s officially been replaced by Kyle Orton, who is as boring as Rex is erratic.
Orton does nothing well, but nothing awful. He’s not flashy. He ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Chicago Bears, Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman, Kevin Jones, Devin Hester

Usain Bolt: WR in the NFL?

There is no doubt in my mind that Usain Bolt is the fastest person in the history of mankind. But does that speed translate to other sports? We see fast players like Devin Hester and Adrian Peterson thrive in the NFL every single day. With proper training, could a sprinter like Usain Bolt be the next big thing?
It would not be the first time a track star has come to the NFL. Willie Gault won the bronze medal in the 100m at the 1980 Liberty Bell Classic (see US-led Boycott). Afterwards he pursued an NFL career and became a Super Bowl Champion with the Chicago Bears. The Dallas Cowboys once used a late-round draft pick to grab the rights to the great Carl Lewis, who had no interest.
There are many things Bolt would have to overcome before becoming an elite player. He would need to learn to catch, run with pads and deal with someone in front of him. When he sprints he does not have a cornerback pressing him at the starting line before starting his ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, San Diego Chargers, Devin Hester, Chad Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals
