Campbell's play may draw attention

Quarterback Jason Campbell likely is playing to impress other teams for a job elsewhere next season. Although Campbell is a restricted free agent, it appears the Redskins will be moving in many new directions again, so Campbell's time in Washington could be drawing to a close. And if that's the case, the pool of teams that might be interested in Campbell could be increasing based his improved play of late. Campbell had his best outing of 2009 in Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints at FedEx Field. He set season-highs with 30 completions (in 42 attempts), 367 yards passing and three touchdowns and a 111.9 passer rating. Campbell also threw one interception. "Very sharp," Coach Jim Zorn said of Campbell's performance. "I thought today he really extended himself down the field with his vision. He saw receivers that were wide open. In the past, he's missed a

Redskins fall short in overtime

Another week, another heart-breaking loss. Despite leading by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, the Redskins lost to the New Orleans Saints 33-30 Sunday at FedEx Field. The Redskins have now lost their past three games by a total of seven points, and the Saints escaped Washington with their perfect record -- now at 12-0 -- still intact. poll by twiigs.com The Redskins won the coin toss, but just two minutes into the overtime period, Mike Sellers fumbled a short Jason Campbell pass. Sellers was initially ruled down on the play, but the Saints successfully challenged the ruling on the field. The call was overturned after a lengthy review by officials, and the Saints took over on the Redskins' 37-yard line. Many fans began filing out of the stadium as the Saints' offense took the field. It took New Orleans eight plays to inch its way down

Redskins know secrets of Williams' success

For the second time in as many seasons since he was fired, Gregg Williams will return to FedEx Field to face the Redskins. Washington's assistant head coach-defense for four seasons, Williams first returned in the 2008 preseason while serving as the Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive coordinator. This time, he's back with the 11-0 New Orleans Saints. Williams is the architect of the Saints' major turnaround on defense, which has helped the NFC South leaders become arguably the NFL's best team. Maintaining the same aggressive approach he took with the Redskins, Williams has transformed the Saints' defense, which last season ranked 23rd in the league in yards and tied for 26th in points, into an attacking group that leads the league with 22 interceptions and is tied for 10th with 26 sacks. Although New Orleans is giving up about the same average yardage per game it did last season, it has reduced

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth said his ankle injury has improved and he expects to play this week against the New Orleans Saints at FedEx Field. "Guys have stepped up and played hard just like I knew they would," said Haynesworth, who has sat out the last two games. "We've been playing hard and the offense has really been moving the ball. "I think the offense has done a good job, and we just have to keep working. I know we'll keep it up. I never doubted that for a minute." Smoot a go for Sunday With the hood from his sweatshirt draped over his head, cornerback Fred Smoot sat at his dressing stall and answered questions about the head injury he sustained late Sunday. Smoot, who started the game, was not in the lineup on the Eagles' go-ahead drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, but he expects
