They rallied to save their season after an 0-2 start, then
won a big playoff game in Dallas, then another in frostbitten Green Bay, then beat the team with the longest winning streak in NFL history to win the championship, and all along, the Giants were hardly given much attention or a chance.

Rodgers To Start, Hasselbeck Unlikely To Play

Green Bay Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers is putting the questions to rest early this week, proclaiming Friday--with support of his head coach--that he will in fact be ready to start Sunday against Seattle.
"I feel like I'm going to be able to be good for Sunday," Rodgers said Friday. "I would've liked to (have done) a little throwing, but I did as much as I could (in practice) with the run game and took the mental reps. I feel good about the game plan and my preparation."
"Dr. (Pat) McKenzie, in his evaluation this morning, felt it was best for Aaron not to throw today. That's why his practice reps were limited," Packers' coach Mike McCarthy said. "He'll be ready to go Sunday."
His opposing quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, won't share that luxury as his coach is unsure of his status.
"Matt, I'm not sure. It will be a game-day decision there," Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said. "The thing just has not responded. He can't do much with his leg. It's not ligaments, it's not anything like that. ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers

QB Hasselbeck likely out for Seahawks

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has not been cleared to play against Green Bay, meaning the Seahawks will likely start Charlie Frye against the Packers.

Coach Mike Holmgren made the announcement after practice on Friday. Hasselbeck was again a spectator watching practice wearing a neon green baseball hat, while Frye took the majority of the snaps. Hasselbeck bruised his right knee last Sunday against the New York Giants.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Charlie Frye, Mike Holmgren, New York Giants

Happy 39th Birthday Brett- His Top Plays

This is just a fun article to honor an amazing athlete on his birthday.
For anyone that wants to argue with this article—well I guess you will be arguing with stats and true statements so have fun with that one.
Brett is 39 years old today. Obviously it’s a no-brainer that I decided to base my article on the 39 greatest memories he gave to his fans and the milestones he had.
 1. Feb 10, 1992. The day Favre signed with GB, Football fanatics and Packer fans had no idea what they were in for—I am pretty sure some of their mouths are still left hanging open in awe.
2 . In his third game of the 1992 season, Brett made quite the impression. He took over QB after the starting QB was injured. Brett fumbled four times and the crowd was chanting for him to get off the field. He ended up turning around the game and his performance for his first come-from-behind win with 13 seconds remaining.
 3. 1993 season- Brett became the most accurate career passer in Packers history. ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Brett Favre, Green Bay Packers

Ryan Grant Has Two Left Feet

Arguably the best unknown running back of 2007, Ryan Grant is now averaging 3.7 yards per carry, and zero TDs. Thats what people expect from Reggie Bush. Maybe there is a reason everyone was saying "Who are you Ryan Grant?" over the final nine weeks of the 2007 season.
The guy just cried his way to a nice long term contract with decent bonus money, and he hasn't scored? Thank God for contract escalators. Is he the next Saun Alexander, having good seasons, making it to the Pro-Bowl just to fall apart and loose all desire when the money gets throw at him? For all Pack fans hopefully not.
He'll be running against Seattle this week, which should mean his first 100+ yard game of the season. If not, ever heard of Kregg Lumpkin?

Packers-Seahwaks: Five Matchups To Watch

You may have forgotten, but it was only one short year ago that the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks faced off in the NFC divisional playoff.
Oh, what a difference a year makes.
Only six weeks into the 2008 campaign, you can almost smell the stench of desperation coming from each of their respective locker rooms.
The two square off Sunday at Qwest Field in a season-defining game for both squads. The Packers will come in on a three-game losing streak, and the Seahawks are coming off a 44-6 slaughter at the hands of the New York Giants. Both desperately need to keep pace in their division races.
Five matchups to watch on Sunday:

Seahawks' RB Julius Jones vs. Packers' Run Defense
The Packers have been absolutely gashed the past three games, giving up an average of 190 yards on the ground. If that doesn't improve in Seattle, Julius Jones could have a big day for the Seahawks.
Jones has 378 yards this season, averaging a respectable 4.8 yards a carry. With QB Matt ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Aaron Rodgers

Holmgren rips into sagging Seahawks (AP)

So much for a soft, sentimental ride through Mike Holmgren's 10th and final season as Seahawks coach. The paternal yet often fiery Holmgren ripped into his players during what he called "a truth session" on Wednesday, three days after Seattle (1-3) was embarrassed 44-6 at the New York Giants. It was the worst margin of defeat in Holmgren's head coaching career, which began in Green Bay in 1992.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Seattle Seahawks, Mike Holmgren, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers: Is Bob Sanders the Bobby Fischer of Defensive Strategy?

Many in Green Bay were shocked that Jim Bates was passed over for then-unknown Mike McCarty for the head-coaching position in 2006. But what baffled Packer fans even more was Little Mac’s decision to promote the existing Defensive Ends Coach Bob Sanders to the coordinator position.
With no previous NFL experience as a coordinator, the task of training a new corps of young and inexperienced Ted Thompson draft picks would fall upon Bob. And while Bob had much success in Florida, working with an unending supply of talented Gators, he had much to learn about the level of talent at the professional level for NFL teams.
Because defensive units are more balanced in terms of talent in comparison to the collegiate level, the strategy the defense employs for each game is so critically important.
Last year’s strategies have been broken down, dissected, and studied by opposing teams in preparation for the next match, basically making them obsolete by season or week’s end.

Can Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson Break Out of the Frozen Tundra Backfield?

I was just as excited as the next Packer fan when I saw Ryan Grant rush for 956 yards in only 10 games last season. The 6'1", 218-pound RB from New York seemed to find holes easier then Brett Favre found receivers.
The performance continued into the postseason, where Grant nearly became a living Green Bay legend on that snowy day against the Seattle Seahawks. Then, however, the legend seem to stall when Grant posted a dismal 29 yards in the 23-20 loss against the eventual Super Bowl Champions.
Nevertheless, the efforts of Grant, and even late bloomer Brandon Jackson, made the running future look bright for the Packer organization.
The start of the 2008 season began exactly the way I didn't want it to. Grant asked for a contract extension, which I fully know he deserved, but I have never been comfortable with long contract negotiations that are based on the latter half of one season.
After the four-year, $30 million contract was settled, I was ready to see just what Grant had to ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers' Soft Run-Defense Becoming a Lingering Problem

I think the word is out: The Green Bay Packers are struggling to stop the run early in the season. Say what you want about quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but it's the Packers' run defense that has been the sole cause of their 2-3 start.
And you better believe that Seattle coach Mike Holmgren has noticed the Packers' recent three-game losing streak, a streak in which Green Bay has given up an average of 190 rushing yards. Seahawks RB Julius Jones has to be licking his chops.
The Packers' defense was believed to be a strong unit heading into the season, after finishing last season in the top half of almost every important statistical category. But it's been anything but a solid unit for Packers coach Mike McCarthy, as the Packers rank 26th in points and 30th in rush yards allowed in 2008.
“I look at the defense as the thermostat in a football game,” McCarthy said. “They need to keep the game in order, and it starts with stopping the run, and we’re not doing a very good job of ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Green Bay Packers

So Favre, So Good

Having played a quarter of the NFL season, the New York Jets have become a team that has a chemistry that continues to grow. They also have a refreshing, positive, outlook on the rest of the season to this point.
Whereas in the past at this point some fans may have become frustrated and looking to sell their tickets; An intriguing phenomenon has been effecting the New York area.
There is optimism in the NY/NJ area...and for the Jets! Even at a record of 2-2.
The past few weeks have shown Jets fans and Favre watchers alike that there is a surprisingly different approach to each week.
Week one against the Dolphins had shown us that Favre had the ability to learn a new system and execute what had been planned for him. We saw in that victory new beginnings for this team offensively.
Week two brought us the same old Jets and the same result in losing to the Patriots. For anyone to jump to conclusions after this game is unfair simply because despite the absence of Tom ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Brett Favre, New York Jets, Green Bay Packers

Where Do the Green Bay Packers Go from Here?

Last Sunday's game between Green Bay and Atlanta has left another bitter taste in fans' mouths. Despite a valiant effort to rally back from an early deficit, the Packers came up short, again.
This team is becoming an enigma as each week passes. The running game and defense are a far cry from last year's performance, and Aaron Rodgers' ability to lead this team past a competitive opponent leaves many questions unanswered.
The defense has been affected by injury, but this team is still solidly built with the foundation of last year's personnel.
At this point, if the current performance becomes status quo, the season looks to become a wasted opportunity for the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers is, unfortunately, still in the shadow of greatness, despite the "great one" being in another conference. Until Rodgers brings victories over more prominent opponents, he may still find himself in the shade of Favre.
Regardless of his statistical numbers, regardless of his touchdown to interception ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Aaron Rodgers, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
