An ill-timed 'wake-up call'

The Jets were roused from their sleep at 1:30 this morning, when the fire alarm in the team's hotel in Providence, R.I., went off and blared for five minutes. It turned out to be a false alarm, but it raised immediate suspicion.

S Kerry Rhodes, who broke the "story" on his Twitter page this morning, writes: "You know we are playing New England when in the middle of the night when u r sleep somebody pulls a fire alarm to wake u up!! wow!!"

It's been a rocky season for Rhodes

This is the kind of season it's been for Kerry Rhodes: Yesterday in the locker room he went to hurdle a laundry cart, clipped his foot on the edge and fell to the floor.
The Jets safety got up uninjured and laughing, but it's been that type of year ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Kerry Rhodes, New York Jets

Rhodes defends self, off-field pursuits

Kerry Rhodes is supposed to be the Jets' ball-hawking version of Ed Reed in Rex Ryan's defense but he hasn't been making plays. So that surely means he has been too preoccupied doing photo shoots, commercials and appearing in music videos, right?

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Kerry Rhodes, New York Jets, Ed Reed, Rex Ryan

No defense for playing blame game

Jets Nation would had to have been blind not to see Kerry Rhodes running a yard behind Marcedes Lewis on the 33-yard completion that essentially sealed a fate the Jets had been tempting since the opening kickoff. But there was no justice in that.
Rex up to his old tricks

This much we know about Rex Ryan: He always manages to deliver a fiery speech on the eve of the game -- every game. That apparently was the case tonight. The only reason we're bringing this to you is because Kerry Rhodes decided to mention it on his official Twitter page. This is what he wrote:

"Rex was hot 2nite and he has the right 2. we have to show the world what we have in our room!!! and we have alot! starts 2morrow!"

From what the players tell me, Ryan's speeches usually are the rah, rah type, always R-rated, saying how they're going to kick butt, etc. This is totally reading between the lines, but it sounds like Rhodes is saying Ryan directed some anger at the team.

That shouldn't be news, should it? I mean, his team has lost four of its last five games, so he has a right to rant and rave. But something tells me this will be a big story tomorrow if the Jets beat the Jaguars.

Rhodes happy, but still looking for big plays

Safety Kerry Rhodes said he's "discouraged" by his lack of big plays, but he's satisfied with his overall performance. In training camp, he was optimistic that he'd rebound from last season and have an Ed Reed-like impact in Rex Ryan's system, but that hasn't materialized.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Kerry Rhodes, Ed Reed, Rex Ryan
