After the Chargers totally blew that game against the Baltimore Ravens this season, I wrote the following: Every year, I write articles about how big a moron Norv Turner is, and then have to retract my statements at the end of the year. Not this time. Now I find myself defending Norv to folks who really don't know what they hell they're talking about. You constantly hear about how the Chargers handed Norv the keys to a 14-2 team and there was a fall off the next year because of Norv. I may have even said the same thing myself, but it was a stupid statement. Three key questions going into today's critical AFC West showdown: 1. How will the Chargers protect QB Philip Rivers? The Broncos have lost three consecutive games, but one area that hasn't slumped is the pass rush. Linebackers Elvis Dumervil and Andra Davis have led the consistent charge upfield, which resulted in five sacks of Rivers in Week 6, a game won by Denver, 34-23. Since then, Rivers has been sacked only five times total during the Chargers' four-game winning streak. San Diego must focus first on slowing Dumervil. Left tackle Marcus McNeill again will draw the assignment. "We feel very confident," McNeill said. "We know we can step up against their pass rush. In a season filled with doubts about his future with the Chargers, one thing became clear to LaDainian Tomlinson on Sunday; he was going to be a father. His wife surprised him before the Chargers' game against the Eagles with some fantastic news about a positive pregnancy test, and Tomlinson took carried that emotion onto the field as he ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-23 victory over the Eagles. While it was evident that he no longer has the burst that made him one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL, he did display some characteristics of his game that have been missing all season. On Sunday, Tomlinson ran with heart, picking up yards after contact and playing through an ankle injury that might have sidelined him in weeks past. It's hard to believe we're even thinking about it, but despite a Hall of Fame career and still being the starting running back for the San Diego Chargers, we're just now beginning to hear some buzz and whispers about LT being a fantasy riser . He's had a fairly ho-hum season so far, but almost reached 100 yards on the ground against a solid Philadelphia Eagles defense in Week 10, and notched his second game in three contests of at least two scores. We're not saying you should pull of a blockbuster deal to land LT while his stock is low, but we are saying that if you have him, either sell high, or take pride in knowing that first round pick you spent on Tomlinson may not be a complete waste, after all.
