Caronlina Panthers Loss To Miami Dolphins Not Just Another Loss

The Carolina Panthers came into the season with a lot of expectations. After coming off a 12-4 season and losing to Arizona in the playoffs, everyone thought Carolina would look to rebound and have a strong season.
With one of the best two-back running systems in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and a dangerous receiver in Steve Smith, this offense hardly looked like it could be stopped.
They proved us wrong.
For the Panthers, this season has been nothing short of disappointing. After starting the season 0-3, Carolina won the next four out of six before losing last night to Miami 24-17. The Panthers record now stands at 4-6.
But, I'll cut them some slack. They do have the second hardest schedule this season, and have top players to injuries like Pro Bowl left tackle Jordan Gross and linebacker Thomas Davis, who was having a Pro Bowl type season. Not to mention Jake Delhomme's 14 interceptions.
After their loss last night to Miami, Carolina's playoff hopes have taken a big hit, and ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Pro Bowl, Wild Card

Why the Miami Dolphins Should Not Depend On One Player

The 2009 NFL season for the Miami Dolphins is a far cry from the 2007 and 2008 seasons. It has been marked with five victories and five defeats as well as Ronnie Brown and Chad Pennington being out during most or the rest of the season.
The pundits were afraid that the season would be over with the injury of Pennington and have repeated their predictions after Ronnie Brown's injury. The game against the Carolina Panthers proved that this was not the case.
The Fins still have life and have been able to cope in their last game with the help of Ricky Williams. It does not mean that they are going to win every game and that they are Super Bowl material.
The underwriter wrote in previous articles about the meltdown of the southernmost NFL Team in America. He stated reasons such as lack of practice methods that have been tried with success.
The other problem has been the dependence on one player. When Marino was active in the franchise, he was looked (directly or indirectly) as the player who kept ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Miami Dolphins, Ronnie Brown

Miami 'Fins Find a Way To Stay Alive

You start the year 0-3 and lose your starting quarterback, what do you do?
You start to win with a second year quarterback. You are on the verge of getting back to .500 and you lose your best offensive weapon, what do you do? You run the ball anyway.
You can like em' or hate em' but there is no denying this Miami Dolphins team is going to fight until there is no fight left.
After an 0-3 start the future looked grim as the Fins' were sitting at the bottom of the AFC East. Insert Chad Henne into the equation and the playoffs are by no means out of the question as they have won five out of seven games.
Their 24 to 17 win against the Carolina Panthers just shows the resiliency of this team. They were getting knocked down and banged up. They had gone almost the entire first half without scoring and before you could blink they racked up 14 points before half time.
Ricky Williams, for the first time in his career, scored with both a run and a reception. Ted Ginn averaged 42 yards returning ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers

Williams' running helps Henne have a pro day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Going into Thursday night's critical Week 11 game, the biggest concern for the Miami Dolphins was how they would find an offense in the wake of Ronnie Brown's season-ending foot injury. Not only was Brown the first-string back for a run-heavy team, he also was a whiz out of the team's productive Wildcat formation.

The Dolphins proved, however, they have someone else who can produce out of direct snaps: Chad Henne. The second-year starting quarterback, who played in an exclusive pro-style offense at Michigan, got a chance to let it loose without Brown and with little use of the Wildcat.

Not only did Henne's efficient performance in the Dolphins' 24-17 victory inspire confidence that he can live up to his early franchise QB label, it also showed the creativity and adaptability of their coaching staff. His numbers: 17-for-29, 172 yards, TD, no INTs.

It doesn't hurt that Henne has the right help to operate a traditional NFL offense. Few teams have the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Chad Henne, Ricky Williams

Ricky Williams: 'I'm not talking about myself'

Ricky Williams is among the NFL's most powerful breakaway backs, but he also is elusive off the field, especially with media in the locker room. Williams didn't care to talk much about his individual performance in Thursday's 24-17 win over the Panthers, but he did spend a few minutes talking to Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer and other reporters about the Dolphins' resilient offensive line and the challenges of replacing Ronnie Brown as the team's feature back:

Q: What were the keys to getting this win?
Ricky Williams: Coach (Tony Sparano) always talks about finishing. Sometimes in this league, it's a physical game, and it's difficult to finish. I think in the past we have prided ourselves on finishing games, and we did a good job tonight.

Q: What are your thoughts on how the offensive line played, considering all the midgame reshuffling because of injuries?
RW: It's tough. It seemed like they were dropping like flies, but somehow (they came through). They work hard in ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Ricky Williams, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins

What We Learned: Dolphins have more than a gross edge on Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three observations from watching the Miami Dolphins defeat the Carolina Panthers 24-17 on Thursday night:

The Dolphins have an underrated receiving corps
Starters Greg Camarillo and 2007 ninth-overall pick Ted Ginn Jr. have made their share of big plays, but of late coaches are making better use of rookie Brian Hartline and second-year man Davone Bess. Hartline has good hands and sneaky speed, while Bess is quick and super-athletic. In addition to burning overmatched nickel and dime backs, Bess can make tough catches.

It's no surprise that second-year quarterback Chad Henne is starting to trust Hartline and Bess more to get open for key gains, especially working inside. As they gain experience, Hartline and Bess are making a case for starting in the future.

The Panthers really miss Jordan Gross

Fantasy Depth Chart's Week 11 Thursday Night Sits & Starts

(Check out FantasyDC's Waiver Hawk Article )
This is a special edition of my Sit/Start reserved solely for tonight's Panthers/Dolphins game. Sometimes the added pressure of making an early-week decision compounds the effects of basic fantasy logic (of which no such thing really exists). So lets take a team-by-team look at some of the names playing tonight. Carolina Panthers
Jake Delhomme QB: Tonight will be an interesting night for the aging Panthers QB. The Dolphins rank 27th in pass defense and are middle of the pack in INTs, but are amongst the better quarter of the league in terms of sacks. Delhomme has an opportunity tonight to take advantage of an aggressive Miami run defense and poor safety coverage unit, although I would only recommend starting him in two-QB leagues.
Jonathan Stewart & DeAngelo Williams RB: There is only one reason I list Stewart before Williams and that's because in the past few weeks, it has been Stewart that has stood out (to me at least) as the more ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Fantasy Football, Miami Dolphins

Ronnie Brown's season has ended with an injury -- again. The Miami Dolphins' leading rusher was placed on injured reserve Wednesday because of a right foot injury suffered in Sunday's victory over Tampa Bay.
