DOES SHOCKEY WANT TO STAY IN NEW YORK?

Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride has spoken with tight end Jeremy Shockey about his status with the team. And while Gilbride has shared some of the details regarding the discussion, Gilbride wouldn’t answer the $64,000 question.
Does Shockey want to stay in New York?
As to the prospect of a return by the 2002 first-round draft pick, [...]

FanHouse found this 4 hours ago on www.profootballtalk.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Jeremy Shockey, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Kevin Gilbride

But he also became the latest person who couldn’t guarantee Shockey would be the Giants’ starting tight end this year.

That’s the plan, Gilbride said, but he added the phrase “right now” - just like GM Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin did a few weeks back. It’s yet another sign that the possibility exists that Shockey could still be traded, ...

Big Blue View found this 11 hours ago on www.nydailynews.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New York Giants, Jeremy Shockey, Kevin Gilbride

I know, I know. I told you I wasn’t going to get caught up in instant evaluations or Day 1 analysis. But the more I stood on the sidelines Friday, the more I kept having my eyes drawn to receiver D.J. Hall.

I thought the undrafted free agent from Alabama was the star of Day 1 of the Giants’ rookie mini-camp, though that’s not a completely fair analysis. It’s absolutely impossible to get a read on linemen in non-contact drills, and it’s hard to tell much about running ...

Big Blue View found this 11 hours ago on www.nydailynews.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New York Giants

The Giants opened rookie mini-camp this morning with 59 players on their roster for the weekend, including 36 players who were brought in for a tryout. The group of longshots came from everywhere, too - including three players from powerful Miami, two from tiny Tuskegee, two from colleges I’ve never heard of (Graceland College? Johnson C. Smith?), and even one from Syracuse.

There are technically two spots currently open on the Giants’ official 80-man roster, though those will disappear ...

Big Blue View found this 37 hours ago on www.nydailynews.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New York Giants

Don’t be surprised by that. With very few exceptions, rookie mini-camps are a mess of mistakes, errant throws, bad reads, sloppy technique and mental gaffes. It happens even to the best of them and it doesn’t mean much. The rookies arrived here last night but didn’t have their first team meeting until this morning about an hour before they were thrown out onto the field.

Basically, they were handed the playbook and then someone yelled “OK. ...

Big Blue View found this 37 hours ago on www.nydailynews.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New York Giants
