Am I lucky or what? One of my calculus students surprised me with his comments on Wednesday night before class. He said, "Guess what, Professor? I flew to Oakland and attended the game on Sunday." I was surprised. I had just read a comment from a neuromuscular dentist and I was surprised at the student's comment about the Oakland Raiders. He continued by telling me that he and his guest sat in the best seats at the stadium. After the game, he said they went to a fine restaurant. Yes, they had a party and had a great time. I asked, "Were any of the team members at that particular party." He said, "No, only some of the coaches." The team is turning its attention towards trying to work with Bruce Gradkowski as the starting quarterback in Oakland. I can imagine it's a bitter pill to swallow, considering that you were drafted to be the face of the franchise and return it to the glory days. Instead, your considered by many to be a bust, ranking in the rare air class, with Ryan Leaf. Today, two little pieces of news came out of Oakland. Both of them should bring a smile to the face of the fans both near and afar, but belong to the Raider Nation. After straining his hip against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the status of running back Cedric Benson is still up in the air on whether or not he will start this week against the Oakland Raiders. As tempted as Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis may be to start Benson, who has rushed for 859 yards and six touchdowns on the season, he might want to consider resting the league's sixth-ranked rusher against the Raiders. Benson sat the second half Sunday against the Steelers and was replaced by rookie running back Bernard Scott , who scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 96-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Against the Steelers No. 1 ranked rushing defense, Scott managed to gain 33 yards on the ground on 13 carries. Oakland Raiders Are Soft

The Oakland Raiders could not beat a team in which every QB to face them over the past four or five games burned them in the passing game. The Oakland Raiders WRs are a joke, causing a couple picks because they do not know how to catch. In the few times that they managed to hold onto the ball, the O Line with the penalties blew the drives. The Raiders have three No. 1 picks in J-Russ, D-Mac and DHB that look like total busts. I am so tired of listening to Cable every week after being crushed talk about how close they are. This team is not only not close but as sad as it is to say, the Oakland Raiders over the past seven years, that's right seven years have played some of the worst football that I have ever witnessed. Home Loss to Chiefs Realistically Ends Oakland Raiders' Season

Oakland blew it hard today. There game against the Chiefs continued a trend that was hard to watch for Raider fans. Any hope the Raiders had of turning it around in the second half of the season slowly and dreadfully faded into oblivion at home against lowly Kansas City. Now we can officially declare over any false playoff hopes for Oakland. Their seventh-straight 10-loss season might as well be in the bag now, as well. In a game that Oakland should've won by at least 14 points, the Raiders failed to score for three straight quarters after starting the game on a roll with a 70-plus-yard touchdown drive set up by a Michael Bush 60-yard ramble that put the Raiders inside the Chiefs 5-yard line. JaMarcus Russell ended up getting pulled for the second time in the last four games and returning wide receiver Chaz Schilens was very much a non-factor in the loss.
