Rex Grossman's True Role for the Chicago Bears? Team Scapegoat

As a long-time Grossman supporter, it almost pains me to write an article like this, but the evidence has been piling up since the end of the Super Bowl run in 2006.
Rex Grossman, once considered to be the Bears' quarterback of the future, and the hopes of the entire team, has shifted into a role that is almost as important. To the overall prestige of the team, it may be even more important than his previous.
Every time a team performs well, they're going to hit a few road bumps along the way, even if it takes them all the way till the last game of the season, i.e., the Patriots in 2007.
However, when a team that has been projected to be mediocre starts to perform mediocre, they're going to look somewhere to blame their shortcomings, especially when they had such high expectations for themselves.
Now, the Bears haven't made their blame game a secret, not by a long shot. After their shortcomings in the Super Bowl in 2006, almost everyone had their index fingers poised and ready to point at ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Chicago Bears, Rex Grossman

Ryan Grant, Packers Feast on Chicago Bears

Matt Forte was supposed to be the back that flourished in the renewal of the oldest rivalry in professional football. Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be the guy that carried the Green Bay Packers to victory.
With the Packers injuries piling up and the wind blowing at Lambeau Field, the conditions were ripe for the Chicago Bears to all but knock the Packers out of the playoffs.
Both teams would have to rely on their running backs, and the Bears defense had just held the Tennessee Titans to 20 yards on 29 carries; the Packers had just yielded over 200 yards for the second time this season and had given up an average of over 150 yards per game.
Ryan Grant and the much-maligned Packers offensive line had other ideas though. Grant ran the ball for 145 yards (including 105 in the first half) on 25 carries (5.8 average) and one touchdown; he helped the Packers immediately take control and establish a 17-3 lead.
It was only Grant's second 100-yard game this season, the other requiring over 30 carries. ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Ryan Grant, Rex Grossman, Matt Forte

Kyle Orton Should Have Stayed On the Bench This Week

For all the complaining and moaning Chicago fans had for Rex Grossman, who put up decent numbers against the No. 1 defense in the league last week, I had better hear an earful of complaints for Kyle Orton this week, who put up absolutely nothing against the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday.
It was obvious in the first two passing plays of the game that the Bears and Kyle Orton had fed us a mouthful of lies in the days leading up the important contest against the Packers.
We were told Orton was making incredible progress and would be ready to go. After two near interceptions, one that Desmond Clark ripped from the hands of a Green Bay corner, and the other that popped out of Al Harris' chest into Greg Olsen's hands, the Bears should have said, "Okay maybe not," and pulled Orton out of the contest.
Though I believe it's more of Kyle Orton's selfishness and stubbornness that kept him in the game as opposed to the fact that maybe the Bears are just that stupid, Orton will and should shoulder ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Kyle Orton, Chicago Bears, Rex Grossman

Bears' worst effort of season in 37-3 loss to Packers

The Bears turned in their worst performance of the year today in Green Bay as the Packers laughed their way to a 37-3 victory. The Packers (5-5) and Bears (5-5) now are tied atop the NFC North. The Bears, who had been strong against the run, couldn't stop any aspect of the Packers' offense. Kyle Orton started but was ineffective and replaced by Rex Grossman in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman

Bears' Orton probable for Green Bay game

Quarterback Kyle Orton was listed as probable for the Chicago Bears' game at Green Bay on Sunday.

Orton sat out a 21-14 loss to Tennessee last week with a sprained right ankle. He was taken from the field on a cart late in the first half of a win over Detroit on Nov. 2.

Orton is enjoying a breakout season with 1,777 yards and 10 touchdowns after beating former starter Rex Grossman in a preseason competition.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Kyle Orton, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Rex Grossman

Bears issue at hand: Why didn't Hester field the FG?

Most of the comments on the Bear with Us message board had to do with either vicious hatred of Rex Grossman or the defensive line. However, e-mailer Zevy Reich wanted to know, after a 49-yard field goal attempt by the Titans fell into the end zone as the first half expired, why Devin Hester wasn't back there ready and waiting.

BEARS IN BRIEF: Orton splits snaps and waits

The best indicator of how Bears quarterback Kyle Orton did in practice Wednesday probably came from offensive coordinator Ron Turner , who said Orton ''pretty much split'' first-team snaps with Rex Grossman in his bid to return from a right ankle injury.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Chicago Bears, Kyle Orton, Ron Turner, Rex Grossman

Tennessee Titans: They Are Who We Thought They Were

You can read this article and many other articles at BearsBacker.com . It's THE BLOG for any Chicago Bears fan.
The Bears have many questions to ask themselves after a 21-14 loss against the undefeated Tennessee Titans. How do you lose a game where you shut down supposedly the best running back tandem in the NFL?
How does your pass rush, who is loaded with players like Tommie Harris, Mark Anderson, Alex Brown and Adewale Ogunleye have no success getting to Kerry Collins? How does your pass defense, who has everyone back from injury, struggle against Kerry Collins, who hasn't had over 200 yards passing all year? The Bears need to remedy those crucial mistakes and fast. We know they can shut down running backs, but how do you make a ordinary QB look like a pro bowler? It has happened with Brian Griese, Gus Frerotte and even Dan Orlovsky this season. On the bright side, the first eight games the Tiatans average 149.1 rushing yards per game and yesterday they ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Rex Grossman, Matt Forte, Marty Booker, Devin Hester

To The Idiots Who Blame Rex Grossman

The idiocy of NFL fans will never cease to amaze me. The same fans who only two years ago couldn't wait to pile the blame on the young Kyle Orton and hail the cannon arm of Rex Grossman, have become complete hypocrites of their own philosophies.
I'm going to tell you something that you probably already know, so try not to laugh: Chicago fans are actually blaming Rex Grossman for the loss to Tennesse.
Let me say that one more time: Chicago fans are blaming Rex, and ONLY Rex, for the loss to the Tennesee Titans.
Some of you are probably sitting there, reading and saying to yourself: "You're damn right I am! Grossman is awful! He was overthrowing, underthrowing, blah blah blah!"
Now, before I get into how moronic you are for expecting Grossman to come off the bench with barely a weeks worth of 1st team snaps and shine against the league's number one defense, let's get into how hypocritical you're being in terms of just general QB comparisons.
Rex, while not playing amazing, did put up solid ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Rex Grossman, Chicago Bears, Kyle Orton

Don Banks: Snap Judgments for Week 10
