Cardinals Brace for Rams' Steven Jackson

In this weekend's game between Arizona and St. Louis, the focal point for the Cardinals will be containing Steven Jackson, who has averaged five yards per carry while topping 130 yards in each of his last three games, and is only 85 yards shy of going over 1,000 for the fifth straight season.
If they can do that, stopping the Rams' passing game should be fairly easy.
St. Louis has lost two of its top three receivers to IR and is now down to practice squad warriors, outside of second-year wideout Donnie Avery. Marc Bulger and Kyle Boller have combined for only seven touchdown passes in nine games.
Although Arizona is still ranked in the Top 10 against the run, it has stumbled as of late. Against Carolina the Cardinals were gashed for 270 yards and then bled out another 164 to a weak Seattle rushing attack.
The Cardinals could be bolstered by the return of Gerald Hayes , the veteran linebacker who is one of their best run stuffers, but is listed as questionable to play after missing the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Arizona Cardinals, Steven Jackson, Kurt Warner, Tim Hightower, St. Louis Rams

Bush held out of practice, questionable vs. Bucs

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush has been held out of practice for the third straight day, and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.

Bush came out of the St. Louis game with swelling and soreness in his left knee, which was surgically repaired twice in a three-month span a year ago.

Saints coach Sean Payton says Bush's knee is bruised and swollen. He says that happens with a knee that has had surgery.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Reggie Bush, St. Louis Rams, Sean Payton

Rams' DE You lost for season with knee injury

St. Louis Rams defensive end C.J. Ah You has been lost for the season with a knee injury.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Thursday that Ah You will be placed on injured reserve - the ninth Ram this season and the third defensive lineman.

Spagnuolo says Ah You has a torn anterior cruciate ligament after being injured during Wednesday's practice. He will require surgery.

The Rams host Arizona this Sunday.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, St. Louis Rams, C.J.
Sack attack powers defense this season

Anyone who watched cornerback Carlos Rogers bite on Brandon Marshall's double move on Denver's first touchdown Sunday - a 40-yard pass - or saw Marshall follow up with a 75-yard scoring reception before the end of the first quarter would suspect that the Redskins have shoddy a pass defense. Indeed, Rogers was benched after that first score, and the secondary has had problems with big plays all year. But the numbers are stunning: The Redskins rank first in the NFL in pass defense, allowing just 162.7 yards per game. The reasons for this, of course, are varied, and it helps that five of the Redskins' nine opponents rank 21st or worse in the league in passing offense - Detroit, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Kansas City. (Denver is tied for 17th with Atlanta.) But a bigger reason might be a vastly improved pass rush. After racking up three more

Reggie Bush, Saints Overcome Miscues to Fend Off Pesky Rams, 28-23

The may have 9-0 next to their name in the standings, but the New Orleans Saints didn't look like a 9-0 team Sunday.
They struggled to put away to put away the 1-8 St. Louis Rams in a 28-23 road victory.
Drew Brees threw two more interceptions, his sixth and seventh in the past four games, and Marques Colston lost a fumble at the goal line.
The voids left by absences of Jabari Greer and Darren Sharper, both inactive, and Tracy Porter, who left the game with a knee injury, were felt strongly.
Rams' quarterback Mark Bulger, drafted by New Orleans in the sixth round in 2000, passed for nearly 300 yards and tossed two touchdowns to Donnie Avery. Both touchdown passes were defended by nickel corner Randall Gay.
Luckily, Reggie Bush and Courtney Roby were there to save the day.
Bush had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and had another run for a career-long 55 yards.
Roby broke a 14-14 halftime tie by returning the opening kick of the second-half 97 yards for a touchdown.

St. Louis Rams Put Up a Fight, But Fall Short Against the Perfect Saints

ST. LOUIS| It may have been the best the St. Louis Rams have looked this season, but it wasn't enough.
Reggie Bush ran for 83 yards, caught two balls for 15 yards, and scored twice to lead the New Orleans Saints to a 28-23 road win against the scrappy Rams.
"It's a tough one," said Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo. "The only thing that matters in this league is the result, and I'm having a hard time with the result.
"We were knocking on the door with a possible victory over an 8-0 football team. There are no moral victories, but we'll build on that. Our guys battled. We said we'd play fast, and play hard, and that's what our guys did."
The Rams went into halftime tied 14-14 with the undefeated Saints, and had the ball trailing 28-23 with 2:21 remaining in the game.
After driving inside the Saints 40, Marc Bulger threw an ill-advised pass to Steven Jackson in the middle of the field with 19 seconds left and no timeouts.
The Rams quickly got to the line, but Bulger's pass to the end zone on the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, St. Louis Rams, New Orleans Saints, Keenan Burton, Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Donnie Avery
