The Tennessee Titans believe they might have reached a long-term deal with All Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth if only they had more time before the NFL deadline. That made it easier to promise Haynesworth they won't slap him with the franchise tag in 2009 -- if he meets several incentives.

Agent: Haynesworth, Titans agree on terms

The agent for Tennessee All Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth says his client has agreed to terms with the Titans on his one-year tender as their franchise player. Agent Chad Speck confirmed through an e-mail Haynesworth and the Titans had agreed to terms Friday morning. That means Haynesworth could be on the field Friday afternoon when the Titans hold their first training camp practice. The exact terms of the tender were not immediately known.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has agreed to a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. Haynesworth was named the Titans' franchise player in February and will receive the salary--$7.25 million--to which he was entitled under the franchise tender. With training camp around the corners, the Jets have begun to crank out the draft-pick signings. Today they announced the signing of CB Dwight Lowery, a fourth-round pick from San Jose State. They haven’t made it public yet, but they’ve also agreed to terms with QB Erik Ainge, a source tells me. Ainge, a fifth-round pick from Tennessee, received a four-year contract and a $165,000 signing bonus. The only unsigned picks are the two No. 1s - OLB Vernon Gholston and TE Dustin Keller. Sources tell that talks with Gholston, the No. 6 overall pick, have just now kicked into high gear. Evidently, the Jets aren’t anticipating any problems with getting him signed by the start of camp, July 24.
