"The NFL Today" was first broadcast on this
day 40 years ago when CBS expanded the 15-minute
"NFL Report" into the first half-hour pregame show on television. All these years later there are a bevy of preview shows starting Wednesday with HBO's "Inside the NFL" and continuing through to Sunday's kickoff.
