Cowboys need 'good Romo' to avoid bad outcome

Tony Romo thought he was done dealing with unhappy wide receivers.
Roy Williams and Romo are not clicking, and Williams is wondering why‹out loud. Not exactly what the Cowboys (5-2) needed, heading into tonight¹s showdown against the Eagles (5-2). However, locker room unrest is nothing new for the Cowboys, who are riding a three-game winning streak and playing their best football of the season.
"We understand what kind of football team they are," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "We have to make sure as coaches and players that we prepare ourselves for a knockdown, drag-out fight."
The answers to these five questions will help determine the outcome of this NFC East showdown:
  1. Which Romo will show? The difference between the good Romo and bad Romo is dramatic. In the Cowboys' five victories, Romo has thrown for 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. In their two defeats, he has one ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo, Philadelphia Eagles, Donovan McNabb

Cowboys vs Eagles Preview: Romo, "It's Like A Playoff Game"

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.
When these two teams last met, it was the final week of the 2008 season, with playoff implications on the line for both teams. That game ended with a 44-6 Philly win, which the Eagles rode all the way to the NFC Championship Game. This time, the stakes aren't as high, but first place in the NFC East awaits the winner.
"I've got some good news and some bad news," says Tony Romo. "I'm treating this like a playoff game. That's good news for the Eagles and bad news for the Cowboys."
"As for rumors of a brewing controversy over me getting each of my receivers enough touches, well, that's nothing new to me. Heck, I can't tell you how many times last year I was accused of inappropriate 'touching.' Anyway, I'm not at all like Jessica Simpson — there's not enough of me to spread around."
With a win, the Eagles would not only take sole possession of first in the division, but they'd also proudly sport three consecutive wins over division opponents.

Week Nine: Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night for sole place of the NFC East.
The Eagles enter this game using big plays on offense to score, although they still use their screens effectively, and Westbrook is still a big part of the offense.
Donovan Mcnabb comes into this game 80-133 for 1008 yards, nine TDs, and one interception. His big play threats include DeSean Jackson, who has 20 catches for 501 yards, and four TD's. Every one of Jackson's TDs have been on receptions of 50 yards, or more. Jackson is also a run threat on reverses and in the kicking game.
Running back Brain Westbrook will play in Sunday night's game after missing last week's game against the Giants with post concussion syndrome. Backup LeSean McCoy still gets a chunk of the carries in Sunday night's game. McCoy is the team's leading rusher with 71 carries for 294 yards, and two TDs, including a 66-yard TD run last weekend against the Giants.
The Eagles love to blitz, and they'll do a lot of it in ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Roy Williams, Keith Brooking

NFL Predictions: Week Nine

Week Nine of the NFL Season is upon us. For this Sunday, the NFL is relieved that the Major League Baseball season is finally over, so they won't be competing with baseball for ratings.
So all eyes will be on the NFL now.
For the fans in New York and New Jersey, they will have to come off Cloud Nine for the day to realize that both of their teams aren't playing great football.
With the Yankees season over now, their attention goes back to football, and that might not be a good thing if they continue their struggles.
This week, the Jets are actually off with a bye, so all eyes will be on the Giants then.
The Colts and Saints remain the last two undefeated teams in the NFL and are on top of the AFC and NFC.
The Buccaneers remain the only winless team in the NFL. Each week, they lose hope of getting off their losing streak.
Last week in Week Eight, I went 8-5 with losses from the Giants, Jets, Lions, Broncos, and Cardinals. Overall in 2009, I am 83-33 and looking to continue the good ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Donovan McNabb, Tony Romo, Troy Polamalu, Ben Roethlisberger, Kyle Orton

While his lower-paid teammate breaks records, Cowboys receiver Roy Williams sounds like a broken record.
Just How Good Are Tony Romo and Miles Austin?

The Romo-to-Austin connection is only a few weeks old, but it is already taking its toll on the NFL. The Cowboys are 3-0 with Miles Austin as a starter and Tony Romo hasn't thrown an interception in that time. But just how good are they?
Miles Austin is 10th in the NFL in receiving yards with 563, which is amazing considering that 482 of those yards came in his only three starts. He's also in a five-way tie for second-most receiving touchdowns with 6, trailing Vernon Davis by just one touchdown. And along with Donald Driver, Hines Ward and Reggie Wayne, he has ten catches for 20+ yards, which leads the NFL.
The connection has also helped propel Tony Romo to the top of the league. Like Austin, he's tied for 10th in the NFL in passing with 1,908 yards. That's on pace for a 4,000+ yard season. His QB rating of 96.8 puts him at 9th in the league, and despite being known for turning the ball over too much, his four interceptions put him among the ranks of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Phillip ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Miles Austin, Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, Vernon Davis, Donald Driver

Sorry, ESPN: This Cowboys Team Won't Become the Circus You Want It To Be

Tim McMahon of the newly formed ESPNDallas.com wrote an article today on how Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams is not on the same page as quarterback Tony Romo.
Now this is obvious to anyone with a pulse, but you can be sure ESPN will beat this dead horse into the ground.
ESPN's problem is the Cowboys are playing well, and, for the first time in a few years, there is little to no controversy within the organization. That doesn't bode well for ESPN ratings.
ESPN likes to create news instead of reporting it, especially when it comes to America's team. The difference is this year's Cowboys team is going to have nothing of it.
The Cowboys probably got rid of 75 percent of ESPN's articles written on them when they released Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones, and Tank Johnson. And even with those types of players, they still felt the need to manufacture stories .
Take, for example, the following quote in McMahon's article.

NFL Predictions: Week Eight

Week Eight will be coming up this week with a lot of good match-ups this Sunday.
A re-match of the student vs. teacher matchup will be the featured contest of this week.
The Colts, Broncos and Saints all remain undefeated after Week Seven. The Vikings finally took their first loss of the season after a tough game with the Steelers.
The Titans, Rams and Buccaneers are all still win-less at 0-6 and 0-7 and are desperate for wins.
Tampa Bay is on a bye week, so they will have to wait for that day to come, but the Titans are making a change at quarterback, benching Kerry Collins and starting Vince Young.
As for St. Louis, they're bad, there is no other way around it.
Last week, I was 11-2 in Week Seven's games, losing the Giants game to the Cardinals and losing the Panthers game to the Bills. Overall for the 2009 Season, I am 75-28 and having a good season so far.
Lets take a look at the schedule for Week Eight of the NFL.
New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
The Giants are on a ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Kyle Orton

Does Roy Williams Needs to Be Demoted?

Two weeks after Miles Austin's record setting game against the Chiefs, head coach Wade Phillips promoted Austin into the second receiver spot and demoted Patrick Crayton to the third receiver spot.
But did Phillips demote the wrong receiver?
Since Cowboys owner Jerry Jones traded for Roy Williams, he's done nothing but underachieve. Williams used to make catches like this every once in a while if nothing else, but not anymore. Instead, he just drops passes or doesn't even get targeted by Tony Romo.
During the preseason many analysts said that Romo and Williams need to develop some chemistry, but that hasn't happened yet. Williams is fourth on the Cowboys in yards, hasn't had a TD since week 1 and running back Tashard Choice has more receptions than Williams.
Since Williams joined the Cowboys he's played 17 games caught 31 passes for 428 yards and two TD's.
In the last two games, Austin has 16 catches for 421 and four TD's. Now I'll be the first to admit that Austin's last two games were ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Roy Williams, Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo, Roy Williams

Miles Austin: Season-Saving Sensation, Not Simple Flash in the Pan

Now I must admit, I often get accused of embellishing the significance of big wins by the Dallas Cowboys. Personally, I find such accusations to be both unfounded and ridiculous.
That being said, the Dallas Cowboys' 37-21 trouncing of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday was the most significant win in the history of humankind.
All joking aside, I cannot overstate what a significant win that was for the Dallas Cowboys' season.
Anybody who has followed my last few articles knows what a melancholy and despondent state the first five games of the season put me in.
After a turnover-laden loss to the Giants at home, a deplorable first half against the winless Panthers at home, a last minute loss to the Broncos, and a "victory" over the Kansas City Chiefs, my seemingly unending confidence in this squad was absolutely, well, ending.
I was genuinely starting to question if this team could ever be good, could ever play together, could ever execute and put together the four quarters of crisp, efficient ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Miles Austin, Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Cowboy Fans Should Be Grateful for Tony Romo

The quarterback position of the Dallas Cowboys has always had its glamour and its pressures.
Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Danny White, Drew Bledsoe, and others have come and gone through the years...some better than others.
In 2005, Bledsoe failed to reach the playoffs but led the Cowboys to a 9-7 record. This was a vast improvement over the 6-10 mark that Vinny Testaverde had finished with in 2004.
However, in 2006, Bledsoe looked and played horribly, so much so that six games into the year he was replaced by one Tony Romo.
Why the walk down memory lane? Dallas Cowboy fans need to remember how our quarterback play was before Romo was inserted as the starter. We got so used to winning with "Dead Eye Dick" Troy Aikman that we got spoiled. Once Aikman retired, it was awful to watch the Cowboys play.
However, when Romo stepped in and showed flashes of true talent, we got excited. We screamed that he did not lead us to a Super Bowl that year or the next. This on a guy that was on the bench for ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, Troy Aikman

Sunday's 37-21 victory over the Falcons was Dallas' best game of the season, a convincing win over a quality opponent.

Tony Romo is running around and having fun again, and Miles Austin is the reason for it. Romo returned to his swashbuckling style, keeping drives alive by improvising and turning one near-disaster into a touchdown, and Austin proved his breakout game was no fluke by coming up with big play after big play, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 37-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NFL, Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, Miles Austin, Atlanta Falcons
