Green Not Skating

I haven't confirmed any of this with Coach Bruce Boudreau yet, but based on the morning skate, which is just underway at HP Pavilion, it looks like defenseman Mike Green (bruised shoulder) and winger Alexander Semin (upper back) will not be available tonight as the Caps attempt to end a 10-game losing streak against the Sharks. Sergei Fedorov, meantime, looks like he might be ready to go. Green is not skating, but Semin and Fedorov...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, Bruce Boudreau, Mike Green, Sergei Fedorov

Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin: Which Is a More Valuable Asset?

I've debated or have at least mentioned in some previous posts who I believe to really be the better of the two between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, but in case people haven't read those previous articles, here it goes again.
Alex Ovechkin is the more superior player between the two, and here is why.
First thing, if I asked you who is the better player between Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin, majority of people will say Ovechkin, but if I asked you who is better between Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, then there's a debate. But as of right now, and since midseason last year, Malkin is the superior player to Crosby.
I was glad to finally see someone in the NHL say something over the hype surrounding Sidney Crosby. Now, some people could argue that they're jealous, but believe me, in no way is Alexander Semin jealous of Sidney Crosby.
Don't get me wrong, it's great what the NHL has done is promoting Sidney Crosby and broadening the NHL. Yet, the NHL has so many stars to offer than just Sidney ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Alexander Semin

Green, Semin, Fedorov Out; Morrisonn In

Here's the latest on the Caps' injuries: *Mike Green is out and is set to get an MRI as a precaution later today. He just told me moments ago that he's already feeling a little bit better. "It's too early to determine what's wrong with him," Coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We're going to get him checked out.
Green Out Tonight

Mike Green just walked into the Staples Center still wearing a sling on his right arm. The defenseman said he doesn't know exactly what's wrong with his shoulder, but he also doesn't think its separated or broken. All he knows right now is that it hurts too much to play tonight against Kings. Not sure yet about the status of the Caps' other injured players -- Alexander Semin, Shaone Morrisonn and Sergei Fedorov. But I...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Washington Capitals, Mike Green, Alexander Semin, Shaone Morrisonn, Sergei Fedorov

Tonight's Lineup

Okay, so it's confirmed: Alexander Semin, Shaone Morrisonn and Sergei Fedorov are out tonight against the Ducks. Jose Theodore will be in net, which likely means Brent Johnson comes back tomorrow night against the Kings (though Coach Bruce Boudreau did not confirm this). Barring any last minute changes, the lineup should look like this: Forwards Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov Fleischmann-Laich-Fehr Steckel-Gordon-Bradley Brashear-Nylander-Clark Defense Schultz-Green Poti-Sloan Erskine-Jurcina Some other notes and quotes: *When I asked Boudreau if Semin's injury...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, Shaone Morrisonn, Sergei Fedorov, Jose Theodore, Brent Johnson

Semin, Morrisonn, Fedorov Out Against Ducks

The morning skate is underway here at Honda Center and it doesn't look like the Caps are going to have any of their injured players for tonight's game against the Ducks. Alexander Semin (back/shoulder) isn't skating, and when I ran into him a moment ago, he would only shrug when I asked him if he was better. Shaone Morrisonn (groin) and Sergei Fedorov (ankle) are skating, but Coach Bruce Boudreau said he does not expect...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, Shaone Morrisonn, Sergei Fedorov, Bruce Boudreau, Anaheim Ducks

Semin Doubtful For Tomorrow

Winger Alexander Semin (back/shoulder strain) came off the ice early again during today's practice and is considered doubtful for tomorrow's game in Anaheim, Coach Bruce Boudreau just told me by phone. Sergei Fedorov (sprained ankle) practiced fully and is questionable for the Ducks game, while defenseman Shaone Morrisonn (strained groin muscle) will be a game-time decision. Here were the lines: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov Fleischmann-Laich-Fehr Steckel-Gordon-Bradley Brashear-Nylander-Clark That lineup will change if Fedorov is able to go.

The NHL announced the leagues Stars of the Week today, and Washington Capitals center and left wing, Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin, have been named First and Second Stars of the Week. Nashville goaltender Dan Ellis was named the NHL’s third star.

Here's a quick-post practice update: As you probably have read by now, Alexander Semin left practice early.
Monday Morning Update (Updated)

The Caps are on the ice early this morning because they are leaving for Los Angeles in a few hours, two days ahead of the first of a four-game western swing. Winger Alexander Semin, who missed Saturday's game with an upper body injury, is wearing an orange jersey, which is reserved for players who are hurting. Center Sergei Fedorov, meantime, is on the ice and assigned to a line that has four players.

NHL scoring leader Alexander Semin sat out the Washington Capitals' game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Semin, who leads the league in goals and assists, missed the third period of the Capitals' 3-1 win over the Devils in Washington on Friday with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Semin skated out for the pregame warmup Saturday, the second game of the home-and-home series, but...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils

Semin's Status Still Uncertain

Coach Bruce Boudreau said that the Capitals won't know until after warm up if Alexander Semin will play in tonight's game at Prudential Center, but that it will be Semin's call as to whether he is healthy enough to face the Devils. Semin left yesterday's 3-1 win over New Jersey at Verizon Center with an upper body injury. "It will be an after warm up call and he will call," Boudreau said.

Alexander Semin is questionable for tonight's game at Prudential Center after leaving last night's 3-1 win over the Devils with an upper body injury. It's unclear what happened to him, but he did not play at all in the third period and appeared to be favoring his shoulder/neck/back. "He's going to take warm up and see how he feels," Boudreau said. "He's the leading scorer in the league, so I'm hopeful.

Led by their top line of Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin, who were on the ice for each of the Capitals goals, Washington put together its most dominant performance of the season in a convincing 5-1 win over Carolina to claim sole ownership of the Southeast Division lead.

Just how dominant was the Alexander Ovechkin-Nicklas Backstrom-Alexander Semin line tonight? Well, they were on the ice for all five goals in the Caps' 5-1 victory over the 'Canes, which gave Washington sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division. Consider these stats: Semin -- 2 goals, 3 assists, plus-4, 2 shots on goal. (Now that's efficient). Ovechkin -- 1 goal, 2 assists, plus-4, 5 shots on goal.
Capitals-Hurricanes: Washington Dominates Division Rival

The Washington Capitals dominated the Carolina Hurricanes, their Southeast Division rival, in every facet of the game—finally putting together another "60 minute game", as Caps' coach Bruce Boudreau is often fond of saying.
League leading scorer Alexander Semin had a five-point night (two goals, three assists), and the line of Semin, Ovechkin, and Backstrom were on the ice for all five goals. The Caps (9-4-2-20) pushed past the Hurricanes 5-1 for first place in the division, and now lead the Southeast by two points. The first-line trio was unstoppable, as Ovechkin had a goal and two assists and center Nicklas Backstrom netted his first goal of the season and added three helpers in his breakout game. There was a negative, however, amidst all the offensive fireworks. Goalie Brent Johnson, last week's No. 3 star of the week in the NHL, left after the first period with a hip injury. He injured his hip making a stop in the final seconds of the period, killing off a Carolina five-on-three power ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Alexander Ovechkin, Alexander Semin

Kolzig Praises Johnson, Semin

In case you didn't already know, Olie Kolzig and Brent Johnson aren't just former teammates, they are very good friends and have remained in close contact with one another. Because of that, Kolzig had plenty of positive things to say about Johnson, who will oppose him in net tonight. "At dinner last night, I told him how proud I was of him," Kolzig said of Johnson. "And how he's really emerged as a goaltender since...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Washington Capitals, Brent Johnson, Alexander Semin

Alexander Semin Walking the Walk and Now Talking the Talk

The Washington Capitals still have an Alexander the Great. Instead of Ovechkin, the last name reads Semin currently. He emerged into the NHL scene during the 2003-2004 season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 12 in 52 games played.
I didn't notice Semin that year. It was the last year before the lockout and Ovechkin wasn't on the roster yet. In other words, the Capitals were the lowest of the low, and attention was hard to come by for them.
The talented young Russian could have played in the post-lockout season, but there were some road bumps.
There was some confusion about Semin's obligations to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It requires all Russian men to serve two years, but it allows soldiers who are hockey players to play for professional hockey teams in Russia during their period of service.
However, they are not allowed to play for teams in other countries. Translation: No NHL action for Semin just yet. The 24-year-old played his second year with Lada during the 2005-2006 ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin

Mike Green, Alexander Semin, Alex Ovechkin, Brooks Laich and Brent Johnson also are not skating. Chris Clark, who, according to Coach Bruce Boudreau is nursing a minor injury, is on the ice, however. Tyler Sloan is also still here.
