My confidence has been shaken. In this space, I'm insanely critical of my team. I'm the first to judge them on a bad night. Heck, I'm the first to judge them on a good night. I'm critical of them before the game, during the game, and after the game. But deep down inside, I'm filled with a slight tinge of positivity. On the outside, I'm disappointed, perplexed, and distraught at this ugly season the Ducks have produced thus far. On the inside, I'm eternally hopeful. I'm blind to the ugly numbers, the disturbing trends, the injuries, the rumors, and their name resting at the bottom of the standings. I can't help it. There is too much of this team in my heart that says they will find a way to pull through. The recipe on paper still looks too good to taste this bad. The timer hasn't gone off yet. So I hold onto that little bit of positivity. Lately, tiny pieces of hope flourish during the simple moments within the game. A glove save. A blocked shot. A rush up the ice. A ...

It's rough playing the second night of back-to-back games. The team is usually showing fatigue. By the time the third period rolls around, it's understandable to see the team struggling. That's what happened to the Ducks on Saturday night when they battled the San Jose Sharks in a 3-2 loss. Funny thing is, it was the Sharks who played their second game of a back-to-back, not the Ducks. Could have fooled me. This season, the Ducks have been completely incapable of keeping their momentum going from game to game. Just when it looks like they've turned things around and have found the fire they need to play physical and win games, they follow up a victory with an embarrassing loss. The Ducks are defeating themselves. They are getting outplayed by simply not showing up for the entire game. Inconsistent. The puck dropped and there was aggressive play from Anaheim. There are no sure things in the game of hockey...see Daigle, Alexandre. But there are some things worth taking a chance on, like in the case of the once again waived Andrew Ebbett. Ebbett didn`t really turn heads in Chicago, scoring just one goal in 10 games, but he wasn`t given much of an opportunity either as he was delegated to the fourth line most nights. While conditioning and drive may be questioned, his ability is not, as Ebbett is a gifted center that's play-making abilities rival that of Marc Savard. Which makes the Leafs' decision to pass on him once again on the waiver wire all that more puzzling. He may have been the perfect fit for Phil Kessel. The fact is the kid racked up 8 goals and 24 assists while taking a regular shift in 48 games last season for the Anaheim Ducks. And the thought throughout the league is that he is capable of more if he had the opportunity to play quality minutes with a top calibre goal scoring winger. After trading Chris Pronger, he told Sporting News that a decision like that "eats away at you." After last year's disappointing loss in the second round of the playoffs, it looked like the Ducks were going to rebound this year. However, that hasn't happened. In fact, just the opposite has happened; the Ducks can't get any points and are dead last in the Western Conference. There are a number of things that have been going wrong for them this season, but you never would have been able to have predicted some of them. Right now, penalties are killing the Ducks . These penalties are the biggest reason that they are losing games. However, these penalties also come from the physical style that the Ducks are playing. They do take a lot of penalties, but they are also having trouble in some other areas, as well. Defense in general is a huge problem for the Ducks. They have a terrible penalty kill and have also let in the fifth-most goals in the NHL. This is partly because the defense is giving other teams too many opportunities, but it's also because Hiller has not been himself lately. ...

NHL reinstates Samueli as owner of Ducks

Henry Samueli has been reinstated as owner of the Anaheim Ducks after serving a suspension handed down by the NHL more than a year ago, when he pleaded guilty to a felony count of lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman lifted the ban on Thursday. Samueli's wife Susan also returned to active status as co-owner of the Ducks. She had relinquished her role to "avoid any possible improper appearance.
