I'll admit it. The Leafs just signed a free agent to a pretty substantial contract, and I have no idea who he is. So I asked somebody who would: the fine folks over at the excellent Avs blog In The Cheap Seats . Here's their scouting report: Jeff Finger seemed like he was going to be a career AHL guy until an injury to the Avs earned Finger a call-up late in the 2006-2007 season. No more shall we see his flowing locks gracefully move as he follows the action from the bench. Nor will we be subject to him showing his true capabilities before foolishly deciding to play hockey in 50 pounds of equipment after not eating anything for 24 hours. In all seriousness though, I believe Theodore is a decent guy and wish him ...

Puck Daddy found this 3 days ago on coloradoavalancheblog.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Jose Theodore

Bruno back to Wild : All Things Avs

As we’ve been saying here for a while now, Andrew Brunette is a goner with the Avs. And it looks like there’s a good chance he’ll be going back to Minnesota, too. Mike Russo, who does a great job covering the Wild for the Star-Tribune in Minneapolis, got ahold of Bruno and the durable winger made it clear he (and his wife) wouldn’t mind going back. Bruno said he has “nothing but fond memories” ...

Mile High Hockey found this 4 days ago on blogs.denverpost.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Colorado Avalanche, Andrew Brunette, Minnesota Wild

Brunette has rejoined his former team the Minnesota Wild. With the new wide-open offensive style that Giguere and Granato want to run with, Brunette was no longer a fit for the team. Good luck, Bruno. We'll miss you. EDIT: Apparently he's looking over the contract but is expected to sign.
Wolski re-signs

Wojtek Wolski , a restricted free agent, has signed. Dater is reporting 2 years at $2.8 million a year. If I understand correctly, Wolski will still be a restricted free agent when the deal is up. It seems a little high to me, but it’s not completely outrageous. Matt Cullen is making about the same amount, and he’s got 90 points in the last two years (to Wolski’s 98).

The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Jose Theodore to a two-year, $9 million contract. Theodore, 31, became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after playing out a three-year, $16 million deal. The former Montreal Canadien came off a solid 2007-08 campaign, posting a 28-21-3 record and a 2.44 goals against average.
