to Guy Flaming of Hockey’s Future, Petry is the number one prospect in the Oilers’ system. He’s an all-round defenceman with good size ...
EDMONTON - Daryl Katz so wanted Georges Laraque
here as the Edmonton Oilers' nightly beat cop, the
new owner offered the big guy a four-year contract -- one more year than the Montreal Canadiens were pitching the right winger. Laraque still took the ...
So much of a defenseman's offensive stats come
from PP time, and their even strength points and
+/- (and the underlying numbers that drive it) seem to be mostly of a reflection of the quality of opposition and context of their ice time. These are ...
The 4 pillars of this MacT team are
likely to be Horcoff, Pisani, Staios and the veteran
tandem in net. If these men can perform their jobs and finish > while climbing Everest then the Oilers should make the second season. I've always had a theory ...

EDMONTON -- These are the dog days if
you're looking for a hockey fix, but the fan

For Georges Laraque it was a tough decision.
One of the toughest he's had to make as
a professional hockey player. Essentially it was between two places he calls home. Between a team he grew up idolizing and one he grew to love. In the end, the ...
James Gordon of the Ottawa Citizen has posted
some of the images found in "public document filings

This isn't official, but I felt it newsworthy
considering it could be. A reader sent me an
email he says he received — from where I do not know — regarding the release dates of this season's new third jerseys. And I know how you all just love ...
Estimating point totals for Jason Strudwick is pretty
easy. The stay-at-home, physical defender will show up more
often in other categories, like blocked shots, healthy scratch and 5-for-fighting. Strudwick can play the wing but is mostly ...
from the Lansing State Journal, “It’s a great

So the plot thickens. With everyone now essentially
saying that McCabe will indeed be heading to Florida,
but not for two weeks, we are left with an interesting scenario.. And a VERY odd one as well. Can the Leafs make this into a bigger deal? ...
In 1988, the Edmonton Oilers had just won
their 4th Stanley Cup in 5 years. They had
the greatest star in the game surrounded by some of the best young talent one team has ever collected in the history of the game. They were on top of the World, but a storm was brewing.
As those of you who have been reading
this site since its inception know, I am forever
making references to two hockey books: Future Greats and Heartbreaks , by Gare Joyce, and King of Russia , by Dave King with Eric Duhatschek, because I think both ...
Glenn Anderson, who was finally selected to the

Judging from the passion displayed in the “Comments”

"Theme from Shaft" is imbedded in our brains (or
at least for people my age) and there weren't many who could get away with singing " Who's the black private dickThat's a sex machine to all the chicks? Shaft! You're damn right" way back when but Hayes did and they gave him a #1 record and every award they could for doing it. If you know ...
There's a chance that Lubomir Visnovsky will post
the best offensive numbers of the MacTavish coaching regime.
Since taking over the club in summer 2000, MacT has had some pretty nice offensive talent on the blue. Among the finest offensive seasons ...
Which begs the question: What would have a
Detroit trade look liked? Using the actual Kings' trade
as a template, the asking price likely would have been the same $15 million US as well as the three first round draft picks. The Kings had Martin ...
August 9, 1988 was a tough day for
Wayne Gretzky. It was clear he didn’t want to
leave Edmonton, but little did he know that the Gretzky brand would take-off with his relocation to Hollywood.
It was the trade heard ‘round the world.
It is one of those moments etched in time.
"The "Great One" goes Hollywood. Remember When?
The 20th anniversary of the trade that brought

I’m not too hip to pop culture, and
so the fact that Tori Spelling has a reality

Just because we haven’t heard anything about it

As one who criticized the NHL Network for
a meagerness of programming this summer, I need to
be quick on the draw to commend the outlet for what it did for hockey fans last night. Wednesday night’s documentary on the 1988 trade of Wayne Gretzky from Edmonton to LA, labeled ‘A Day that Changed the Game Forever,’ may end up serving as the segment that changed the network forever.

It was a day that altered the face
of the NHL, and set into motion an escalation
in the interest of the game Stateside. On August 9, 1988, Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings.
