A new day has dawned and that means
new lines for your Pittsburgh Penguins. Yesterday’s Penguins practice
as Boston University saw Coach Michel Therrien put the two big boys on the first line. Sidney Crosby, of course, centered the first line, with Evgeni Malkin on one wing, and of course, Crosby’s best buddy Colby Armstrong on the other wing.
The following are post-game commentary from Red Wings
coach Mike Babcock, Conn Smythe trophy winner Henrick Zetterberg,
Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood, Penguins coach Michel Therrien, Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux, Ryan Whitney, and Evgeni Malkin following the decisive Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. COACH MIKE BABCOCK Q. What was harder, the last 30 seconds or the long wait before the game ...
PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby's first trip to the
Stanley Cup final is not expected to be his
last. But the world is about to get very complicated for Ray Shero, general manager, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who has a bevy of internal issues he must ...
Those that are regular readers to my amateurish
blog here know that I am no fan of
Michel Therrien. I will give Mikey credit for one thing, though. When this guy gets ticked off, he’s not bashful at all to let everyone, including the media, know about it.
This is a great little stat: no coach
in Penguin history has started and finished four consecutive
seasons. Ron Cook thinks Michel Therrien, who just signed a contract extension , could be the one to break that streak. I don't. Therrien is a ...
Returning to West Point in September Tuesday, July
17, 2007 By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The Penguins
have signed on for another hitch at West Point. They are scheduled to spend Sept. 23-26 at the U.S. Military Academy in New York, where ...
It's been discussed over and over on sports
talk shows, internet message boards, and even here at
Faceoff Factor, but is there really any substance behind rumors that Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Michel Therrien could be in a fight to keep his job?
I break the Pittsburgh Penguins’ season into 5-game
segments and compare them to where they stood last
year. Here is how things look at the 35-game mark, which occurred before the Boston game.
Post game comments from Lindy Ruff, Michel Therrien,
Ryan Miller, Brian Campbell and Sidney Crosby
The Penguins today recalled veteran defenseman Alain Nasreddine
and forward Nathan Smith from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. I’m not sure
I follow Ray Shero’s and Michel Therrien’s logic on this one, unless the intent is to continue to give the rookies (less Nasreddine) each a little taste of life in the NHL while they’re so hampered with injuries. Nasreddine has one goal, five points, and is a +13.
Ryan Whitney may not have completely gotten out
of Coach Michel Therrien’s doghouse, but he took several
steps towards acquittal Thursday night against the Islanders, scoring two powerplay goals in edging out a 4-3 win.
Michel Therrien bristled, then launched into a lengthy
explanation. ...
Mark Recchi got the last laugh on Penguins’
coach Michel Therrien tonight. Recchi scored as the 4th
Thrasher shooter to give the Thrashers a 3-2 shootout win over the Pens and stop the Penguins’ eight game winning streak.
The Penguins will once again have seven defensemen
on their 23 man roster, as Pens’ prospect Alex
Goligoski has been promoted. Very interesting timing on this promotion. Coach Michel Therrien absolutely blasted Ryan Whitney for his “unacceptable” performance against the Devils last night.
For any of you who read our blog
here on a regular basis, first of all thank
you, and secondly you fully know that I’m not a member of the Michel Therrien fan club. I firmly believe that the Penguins are a contender in the Eastern Conference despite Therrien and his sidekick Mike Yeo.
Three days after being called out by coach
Michel Therrien, Ryan Whitney responded by scoring two power-play
goals and assisting on an even-strength goal, en route to a 4-3 Penguins win over the Islanders. It was on Monday night, after a 4-3 loss to the Devils where Pittsburgh blew two two-goal leads, that Therrien outrightly blamed the loss on Whitney's lack of physical presence.
Michel Therrien mockingly turned a page of his
imaginary cliche book yesterday at the coach’s press conference,
said ”Game Four is the hardest one to win”, then gave one of his funny chuckles.
With what is sure to be a physical
series, Michel Therrien has to be happy with Georges
Laraque being on his bench. It also has to worry the Flyers. The truth is, it does at least have Flyers coach John Stevens thinking about how to counter-act the Penguins Enforcer.
UPDATE: Kris Letang will be a healthy scratch
tonight for Sydor. --- Defenseman Darryl Sydor will be
on the ice for the Penguins tonight. It will be his first game of the playoffs. Sydor is the leader among Penguins in career playoff games with 151. ...
Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar, perhaps the modern-day Kirk
Gibson of Pittsburgh hockey, and forward Ryan Malone are
expected to play tomorrow night in Stanley Cup final Game 6, Coach Michel Therrien said this afternoon. Gonchar injured his back ...
