Team Canada Should Look at Mike Fisher

Even as recently as a month ago I would have laughed at the suggestion. Mike Fisher on Team Canada? A longshot at best...
But here we sit, the quarter mark of the NHL schedule and Mike Fisher is beginning to force Steve Yzerman and the Team Canada brass stand up and take notice. If going with the hot hand is gonna mean anything when the selections are made in late December you'd have to think Fisher is going to at least get a look.
The team is going to be extremely deep at centre with guys like Sydney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Mike Richards, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews, and Steven Stamkos already pushing for spots but where Fisher would be very useful is as a fourth line, two-way guy. Someone who can play the wing if need be but can also take a draw and kill penalties too.
I'm a big fan of Shane Doan but it's hard not to at least consider Fisher over the Team Canada veteran.
Fisher had a great World Championships and can do the same job a guy like Doan can. Difference is Doan has had a rather ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, Mike Fisher, Ottawa Senators, Mike Richards

Panthers' David Booth: 'I hate doing nothing. I feel like a slob'

Since going on the ice on a stretch, David Booth has been in a long, slow recovery.
The Florida Panthers play a rare game in Detroit on Friday and they'll do it without forward David Booth, a Detroit native who wanted to make the trip but was left behind for health reasons.

Booth is still feeling the effects of a crushing hit from Philadelphia's Mike Richards on Oct. 24 — the hit that heated up the debate surrounding shots to the head in the NHL. It's the hit most general managers pointed to when they decided to take the next step toward a rule change at the recent G.M. meetings in Toronto.

Booth spoke with Sporting News' Craig Custance about the hit, new rules and his future in the NHL.

Craig Custance: So, how are you feeling?
David Booth: It's feeling all right. I'm just kind of taking it easy, trying to get away from everything. I just want to get back as soon as possible and people keep asking how I'm feeling. It's getting pretty ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NHL, David Booth, Florida Panthers, Mike Richards, Philadelphia Flyers

Mika Pyorala scored his first NHL goal, backup goalie Brian Boucher made 37 saves and the Philadelphia Flyers opened a trip with their seventh victory in eight games, 3-2 over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.
