Semyon Varlamov will start in goal tonight for the Caps, who are looking to win their sixth straight game overall and 12th in a row over the Bolts. Mike Smith, meantime, is expected to get the nod for Tampa Bay. Alex Ovechkin is back from a two-game suspension and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn will return from a two-week layoff because of a concussion. Karl Alzner has been reassigned and Matt Bradley has returned to Arlington for family reasons. There have been playmakers, some solid goal tending, and something the team lacked last season: defense. If the playoffs were to begin today, your Tampa Bay Lightning would be among the elite eight in the Eastern Conference. In fact, three Southeast Division teams would be there, including Washington as the No. 1 seed.
