musings on a win
The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2
in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on
Sunday night to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Max Talbot, playing his first game back since breaking his foot in Game 3 against the New York Rangers, scored the game winning goal midway through the 3rd period. The Penguins have become the 8th team in NHL history to go 10-1 in a playoff season,
The Philadelphia Flyers said they’d come out harder
and more physical. They said they’d play a better
defensive game than they did in Game One. They did just that, it was a much better performance all around for the Flyers. The problem is, it still didn’t propel them to a win.
The Flyers lost Game Two by the same
score as they lost Game One, 4-2, but Sunday's
contest was a completely different story in terms of effort. In Game One, the Flyers looked flat-footed and played most of the game back on their heels, while in Game Two they showed more of the effort and intensity that we have grown accustomed to seeing in this playoff run. There were three goals scored in the first
period and none the rest of the way. The
Red Wings played solid defense and got their second straight win to move the series to Dallas with a 2-0 lead.
With the Flyers already down their best defenseman

afford early on; an injury to another defenseman. Braydon Coburn, Timonen’s defensive partner, went down early in the game Then the Flyers went on to lose the game, albeit in a better effort than their game 1 performance.

Today, Finland faced off against Team USA in
the qualifying round of the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Finland won the game 3-2 but what happened on their second goal is beyond belief. Trust me, this isn't sour grapes on my part. Frankly, I really couldn't give a hoot about international hockey but the ruling on this play is unbelievable. You can check out the video on TSN since it's not on ...

I don't think Don Cherry is right when
he linked the attendance "problems" in Detroit with their

With all due respect to my colleague Jes
Golbez, I feel the urge to chime in on
Ribeiro Slash-gate. With the amount of Pro-Osgood press the story is getting, I'm a little surprised about how quickly everyone has cleared him of any and all charges. Sure, he took a "Chris Simon" right to the midsection, but was it really that bad? Maybe it's my eyesight, but it doesn't look half as painful as ...

The league just confirmed. There are some fines
