The AL MVP should have been Carlos Pena
for being the biggest of the big dogs who...
took his team the furthest from where it was in ‘07. Pedroia had only 4 more Win Shares than Pena with a ton more hits, but a lot less HRs and RBIs.

If any of you out there are watching
this world series closely what have you noticed? I...
can’t help but be biased for the underdog Rays here but does anyone else think these home plate umpires are awful? Why is the home plate umpire allowed to have this amount of control over the outcome of the game?

Justin Duchsherer is now 10-6 and a bonafide
All Star. In those 6 losses, the As managed...
to score 3, 0, 2, 1, 0 and 1 run for him. 7 total runs in 6 losses. A month ago I would have said Cliff Lee should be the AL Cy Young front-runner. I am not sure anymore.

We have a team in MLB that will
have (at least) 56 wins at the All-Star break...
that leads MLB in only 1 major pitching, 1 major offensive and only 1 major defensive category - and that word ‘major’ is used loosely because they are not any records that tell a tale one way or the other. But that’s it! 1 each!

This year, I keep hearing how well Johan
Santana has pitched and wonder if it is true....
Conversely, I also hear he needs to kick it up a notch - he is not as tough and gritty as he was advertised as! His W/L record does not support that he is pitching great, so we are going to go outside the W/L numbers and look at how the Mets hit when he’s on the mound.

Santana 7 and 7. Has he been a disappointment??

There was a ‘rant’ in the Sunday newspaper
that brought up something I hadn’t thought of. The...
reader wrote a little one-liner that alluded to the fact that there are athletes that are grilled by media and fans for pumping their fists, but their is one athlete that is always given a pass… Tiger Woods. We both wonder why!

50 players are in the HOF that never
even played in a World Series game. Arod’s career...
in NY is based on that very issue. No World Series victories. So is Griffey’s - except he played his whole career in what might as well have been Guam where it is not the issue it is in NY to win all the time. Should they go to the HOF without ever winning a WS?

An amazing thing happened to Jon Lester the
other night… No, not the no-hitter. The amazing thing...
that night was that he was allowed to throw 130 pitches. What happened to all the science, theories and dangers of throwing more than 110 pitches?

Busch is the next villain in the drama
that is Sprint Cup, whether he likes it or...
not. His on-track antics have perturbed fans and other drivers, though it ’s provided exciting racing, wins and a spot atop the points standings. The bad-boy tag has followed, which he isn’t quite comfortable with, well, yet.

Most people think the pitcher ’s spot is
a black hole in the NL lineup that the...
DH fills out nicely in the AL. Kind of true, when you look at production between just those two batting positions. It is true in every category (but 1 - the obvious Sacrifice). What difference does it really make?

This stat alone has dictated game methodology moreso
than any other stat I can think of. It...
is more respected and protected as a stat than batting average or HRs are feared. Meaning, you might walk a Pujols-type guy with a ton of HRs or carefully pitch to guy like Ichiro - but that will not dictate game strategy as much as what happens during a game because of that save stat.

The perception is that steroid users somehow ‘tip’
the level playing field and provide such partakers an...
unfair advantage (which is my favorite cry from “outraged” fans - that ‘unfair advantage’ clamor!) is to assume that the field was level to begin with. Which would be your first mistake.
