I'm 44, live in Southwest Washington and am disabled, which means that I have a lot of spare time, and that comes in really handy during baseball season. Talk about lucky, huh? Hey, it's all in how you look at it, right? Yep. I'm a die hard baseball fan. Overall favorite sport and by far the best sport; be it pro, minor leagues or college. Am also a big fan of college hoops and football, a fan of pro hoops and a so-so fan of pro football, only because it's always talked about ad nauseum on sports talk radio as well as all television sports highlight programs, regardless of the network or station. C'mon people - give it a rest during the off season, will ya? You do it for all the other sports. I'm just sayin'... Favorite pro teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers (the REAL Los Angeles team), Seattle Mariners (hometeam) and of course, the Boston Red Sox (any team that's the arch enemy of the hated Yankee's is a favorite team of mine!), the Portland Trailblazers (hometeam), and another handful of various teams, both East and West Coast. Favorite college teams, both hoops and football, are a handfull of Pac-10 teams, the first and my personal favorite, the U of O Mighty Ducks (I am an avowed hater of the Huskies), the UCLA Bruins (Kevin Love is a family member of a good friend) and North Carolina (hoops only; an avowed Duke hater)...I do like to watch pretty much any game that happens to be on during the season and. nothing beats the excitement of March Madness and the Championship Game. Good times... FULL NFL DISCLOSURE: I do have an affinity for the hometeam Seattle Seahawks and I do have a favorite team in the Miami Dophins, still the only undefeated team in the NFL, regardless of number of games or which era the record was set and regardless of how they act when a team that comes close fails. Also was extremely happy when the Giants crushed the Patriots, and not because of their almost passing of the perfect season, but rather because I got sick and tired of all the hype surrounding the "America's Sweetheart" angle of the team. Don't hate them, but can do without all the smoke blowing up sphincters and whatnot... I am a big fan of NASCAR (the Craftsman, Nationwide, Sprint Cup), however, am not a fan of the C.O.T - yet. I vowed last season that I would not watch anymore due to the massive push to integrate it as soon as possible. But once Daytona got rolling, it was hard to stay away and due to the fact that this years race was as good and exciting as it was, I decided that I would continue watching, but will take a "wait and see" attitude towards the C.O.T. and will make a final judgment at the end of the season. As far as my favorite drivers go, of course first and foremost are Dale Sr. and The King, Richard Petty, followed by several dozen of the "Old Guard"; the one's who paved the way to where we are now. A huge debt of gratitude is owed them all. Then there are the usual suspects; in no particular order and no one single reason: of likeablility Dale Jr., Greg Biffle (hometown), Sterling Marlin, Mark Martin, Kasey Kane (must be said fast and all one word; "Kaseykaaane") Jeff Gordon (depending on my mood that weekend), Kevin Harvick, Elliot Sadler, Denny Hamlin (and more; too many to list) and of course, the inimitable Tony "Smoke" Stewart. He's as close as the sport has to the old irascible "rum runners" that gave birth to the sport of stock car racing. Again, a huge debt of gratitude is owed to those old timers like Junior Johnson, Fireball Roberts, Cale Yarborough, Red Farmer, Tim Flock and many more, again, too many to list them all. There you have it, sports fans. As always... THINK BLUE WEEK CONTINUES!!! BallHype Member since March 3, 2008 |
