The O.J. Mayo saga has dominated headlines this
week and by extension brought the NBA's age limit...
under attack. One argument made by my colleague Gregg Doyel is that forcing elite prospects into college for a one-year pit stop invites problems regarding agents prematurely investing in players. And he's correct. It's a recipe for probation

Critics of the trade have never confronted the
salient question, which is this: In cutting ties with...
an aging free agent catcher in favor of a young Top 20 starter entering his prime, isn’t it just possible that Paul DePodesta had enough foresight to recognize a 2008 spreadsheet opportunity when he saw it in 2004? Isn’t it foolish to pass judgment on a long-term move in the short-term?

Illinois' Rashard Mendehall may turn out to be
an outstanding NFL running back, but if he does,...
he'll be bucking a lot of history. Mendenhall is considered one of the top running backs in this year's draft, and he's pegged by some to be a mid to late first-rounder. But he'll have to overcome a somewhat accurate stigma that Big 10 backs are more trouble than they are worth.

Anyone who's played fantasy baseball has had the
sneaking suspicion that putting together a championship fantasy team...
requires strikingly similar components as putting together a team in real life...I decided to imagine that the MLB was a sort of grand-scale fantasy league. I ranked each real life major league team by the standard 5x5 rotisserie format based on its team stats. Here's the results.

written by the media about baseball this year. We're not on an FJM-style seek-and-destroy mission, but we do want to point out things that are just painfully stupid and why they are that way. So thank you, Paul Daughterty of the Cincinnati Enquirer, for giving me something to do this afternoon.

Trading Robertson and Vilma would continue an alarming
trend. The Jets treat their former first-round picks like...
disposable contact lenses: Use them for a while and throw ‘em out. Since 1998, five former No. 1s have been sent packing. That is not how you build a championship team. Your No. 1 picks should be the backbone of the roster.
