According to a recent article in Baseball America,
the High-A California League might be losing a couple
of teams. And their loss will be the Carolina League’s gain.

Today is Super Tuesday in the world of
politics, which means that we may actually know each
party's nomination before we go to sleep tonight. With that in mind, we here at STF figured we might as well endorse the candidate that is best for college hoops world.

I am nothing if not fickle in praising
the underdog, which is not an uncommon affliction amongst
those of us who love college sports. A few weeks ago I labeled Boise State as a team on the rise , despite some questionable losses. When a reader challenged my choice, I admitted that it might have been a shaky decision and opined that maybe I should have left the Broncos off the list.

The love showered on the Palestra by college
basketball nuts is well-earned. It's hot, cramped, lacks nearly
every modern amenity, but it's absolutely gorgeous and charming. This was my first time in the greatest gym in America, so I'll let my photos do most of the talking.

When you coach a team that hasn't gone
to the Big Dance since 1977, it's time to
get creative. And no, we don't mean "Nick Nolte in Blue Chips"-level creative. But a 5'8" high school sophomore? That's just crazy talk.

I am the very definition of “cautiously optimistic”
this week. On the one hand, it is wonderful
to see the Jayhawks bowl-eligible this early in a season. On the other hand, walloping Baylor is not exactly a litmus test for greatness.

An interview with sportswriter and blogger Jay Busbee.
An excerpt: "God bless the Internet, though; it’s a
lot easier dropping an email than the old-style way of mailing a query letter with a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) and waiting three, four weeks for a reply…or none."

This story probably falls in that shadowy realm
between what you actually care about as a dedicated
college hoops fan, and what you feel like you probably should care about, but you can't quite muster the energy. So I'm going to care about it for you.

In 2007, Todd Reesing has emerged as the
main man under center, and Kerry Meier is his
backup. But that’s not all he is. A true team player, Meier is using his athleticism to get in the game any way he can. He’s basically re-living the glory days of Punt, Pass, and Kick at the NCAA D-1 Level.

Mike Coolbaugh had only been coaching first base
for the Tulsa Drillers for a few weeks before
a line drive struck him in the head and killed him. To the players and administrators at Tulsa’s parent club, the Colorado Rockies, that makes no difference. Coolbaugh was family, and you take care of family. In this case, taking care of family means voting a full playoff share to Coolbaugh’s wife, ...

WHAT'S TO LOVE: Clemson came on strong at
the end of last year, despite being relegated to
the NIT. K.C. Rivers is just beginning to realize his full potential after coming off of the bench for most of last season. WHATS NOT TO LOVE: Clemson has always been a middle-to-lower tier team in the ACC. That’s a hard habit to break. The key is to at least break even in-conference.

Baseball America has selected OF Jay Bruce of
the Cincinnati Reds’ system as the 2007 Minor League
Player of the Year. Bruce has certainly been seen in many minor-league ballparks this season, as he advanced from the A+ Sarasota Reds to the AAA Louisville Bats over the course of the 2007 season. He never faltered on that journey, ending his season with a .319 batting average,

Today we’ve been set up with a handful
of photos via our good friend in blogging, MCBias.
If you like your writing to approach the status quo with a healthy dose of skepticism, MC is your man. He has definite ideas about how blogging should grow, and how it should be conducted from an ethical standpoint. His most recent interview is a two-parter with WNBA star Erin Beuscher

I still wanted to prove my brother wrong,
so I searched the women’s world cup site for
pictures of some soccer hotties. Sorry everyone, Team USA hot tamale Heather Mitts tore her ACL before the world cup and didn’t make the US squad.

The Mountain West is a strange conference for
this treatment. It ranges from the Mormon hotbed of
BYU to Texas Christian University. It doesn’t sound like a place for porn names. But let’s remember - Jim McMahon went to Brigham Young, and I’m betting he figured out all kinds of interesting things to do with his dorm room door open and one foot on the floor.

You’re 5 foot nothin’, 100 and nothin’, and
you have more than a speck of athletic ability.
And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 3 years. And you’re gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Northern Illinois. In this life, you don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody but yourself. Am I making myself clear?
