July 8 --- MVN Soccer: Charleston Battery, a
USL-1 team, defeated FC Dallas; because they will meet
Seattle Sounders in their semifinal, this guarantees a non-MLS team in the U.S. Open Cup Final for the first time since 1999. --- The Sounders defeated Kansas City in a PK shootout; same was required to send on defending champs NE Revolution, who will meet DC United in their semi (both August 12).

forward and Los Angeles looking for opportunities to counter. --- Goals - first by KC's Claudio Lopez, then the rest by Galaxy: Landon Donovan (his 9th), then both Edson Buddle and David Beckham each scoring their 4th goals of the season (3-1 win gives Galaxy 14 points, 1st in West).
