English currently holds the same position at Michigan, but has been fired by new head coach Rich Rodriguez effective after the Wolverines' bowl game against Florida on New Year's Day. Schad also reported that former Duke head coach Ted Roof would be joining the staff in some capacity.

The Illini went 9-3 and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl a year after going 2-10. Zook, in his third season with Illinois, took over a program that hadn't had a winning season since 2001.
