OLYMPICS Monday highlight VIDEO
San Diego MLS Project — THE highlight of Monday's Olympic action... NBCOlympics.com: Jason Lezak outtouched Alain Bernard of France at the wall Monday to give the USA a victory in the 400-meter freestyle relay and keep alive Michael Phelps' bid for 8 Olympic gold medals... WATCH HERE

Michael Phelps, Jason Lezak And USA 4x100 Freestyle Relay Team Beat France To Win Gold
FanIQ Blog — I've been waiting for this video to become available for a while, and luckily we finally have it. It's the complete 4x100 freestyle relay with Michael Phelps leading it off and my new favorite American - Jason Lezak - sticking it to the French on the stretch run. Yes, that would be the French who said they would "smash" the Americans. Smash must be French for "surrender to." Apologies that it's in Chinese, but them's the breaks. Hopefully, this video also stays up longer than 5 minutes. Screw you, NBC. As was noted earlier, Lezak had ...

Shanoff's Wake-Up Call: 4x100 a Gold Standard
The Sporting Blog — ... The new signature image of these Games is Phelps releasing his inner Hulk Hogan, flexing and unleashing a series of primal screams over what the team pulled off. (I let out my own scream at the finish. Watch it, re-watch it and watch it again: Everyone else will be.) ...

Badass
deepsouthsports.net — This morning, I had some extra freedom toast with my cereal. In a few hours, I'll be at Milo's eating my hamburger and freedom fries, like a true American. Biggie Sized, asshole. Hell yes. Cause that's how we role. Seriously. Most amazing Olympic moment since 1980? I think so. But I'm partial. Check out this HD screencap youtubes and see if you don't feel proud to be a Gosh Damn American: (thank the video Nazis at NBC for the high quality...best embeddable version I could find)

U—S—A!! U—S—A!!
Poor Sports: Bitter Philly Sports Fans Sound Off — If you don't get goose bumps watching this race, you're not an American.

U.S. COMEBACK AGAINST FRANCE
The World of Isaac — Listen, I'm not a Olympics slappy. I won't pretend to know the ins and outs of swimming or sculls or how the scoring works in the gymnastics events. What I do know though is that France sucks. They suck as a nation and they suck as a people. In fact, I've only met one French person in my entire life that I deem normal and perhaps even an acceptable member of society The rest of them tuck their tails between their legs, don't shave their armpits, and speak with a stupid accent. How's that for stereotypes.... I think I speak for everybody when I say, "FREEDOM ...

Monday's Starting Five
What Would Oakley Do? — 1. The NBA on NBC Theme. What a way to start a Sunday! Hoping for soccer on Sunday morning I found basketball and a dulcet tune that I had not heard coming from a live(ish) television broadcast in far too long. It was the sweet strains of John Tesh's classic NBA on NBC theme. Obviously there are inherent difficulties in broadcasting the Games from so many time zones away and on so few channels. Obviously NBC is better at certain things (pomp and pompenstance) than others (allowing me to actually know what will be televised when) and are just as draconian as the host nation when it comes to allowing footage of ...

THE RACE
With Leather — In case you missed it, here's the video of the USA relay team's amazing win against France in the 4x100 freestyle relay.  Generally, I don't like posting any video that's longer than three minutes, but holy crap this is a helluva race.  I grew up spending my summers on a swim team, and I saw a relay comeback like this once, ever.  And it was because the person with the lead was a summer-only swimmer, and the guy who made the comeback swam year-round and competed in national meets.  It wasn't exactly smashing a world record to catch the 100-meter world ...

On my growing obsession with the Olympics
The Postmen // A Sports Blog // Chicago, IL. — In the past few years, I’ve formed a pretty coherent daily newsreading schedule. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s about 65 percent sports, 35 percent everything else. Of that 35 percent, probably 25 is politics. Miniature political junkie over here, which is to say, I probably read more political news than the average American, but less than an actual “junkie.” Something like that. Anyway, I’ve found that the confluence of sports and politics is causing an irrational, unexpected interest in the Beijing Olympics. I’m utterly fascinated by it — by the sociopolitical condition in China, by its various ...

Golden.WaitingForNextYear
This has nothing to do with Cleveland sports, but when an athletic event moves you like the US men’s 400 meter freestyle relay did last night, you have to mention it. I’m not gong to describe it to you, or give any kind of analysis. Pat Forde did an excellent job with that in this column. [...] ShareThis
