le basketbawl low-rated comment [show] -4Friedman stop f-ing voting things down.-
David Friedman I don't know what this moron is talking about but I definitely did not vote this post down, as Jason can surely confirm. It would be nice if you would fix the mistakes in your Croce conference call post instead of worrying about what you think I am doing.-
David Friedman People can vote my comment down if they like; I really don't care--but the comment that I am responding to is demonstrably a lie and I wish that Jason would simply confirm that I did not vote this post down and thus remove the offensive comment. The moron making the above comment has already made one idiotic post about me because I politely asked him to correct some mistakes that he made, mistakes that are a direct result of the fact that he is so unprofessional that he tried to cover a conference call without recording it or taking good notes. Now he's trying to get other people upset with me by saying that I voted something down that I did not vote down. Is this petty nonsense really what Ballhype was created to promote? Can't we just get back to writing about basketball?-
We Rite Goode Ballhype's normally great at fostering intelligent and witty discussion; this bad joke is clearly the exception. However, multiple users voted le b's comment down, signaling they found it in poor taste/incorrect, so just adding more comments draws more attention. And asking Jason to clarify who voted what up or down doesn't seem like the right answer...Ballhype users do a good job of weeding out offensive or poorly written articles on their own.
Honestly, I ignored le basketbawl's comment yesterday...but keeping the story under "most discussed" made me wonder if there was any truth to the joke. I'd never thought to look before, but most Ballhype users are really, really collegial--they "hype" and promote other stories at a far greater ratio than they vote them down (say, 20 or 40 up votes for every 1 down vote...one of our friends appears to have found only one story that displeased him against 300+ that he enjoyed), even if that hurts their own stories' prominence. Your current ratio isn't exactly favorable.
Maybe if fellow bloggers felt you appreciated their work too, they wouldn't be tempted to make offensive comments? There's no shame in having a high quality threshold, but as good as some things are on 20 Second Timeout, there have to be other worthy posts on the net, right?
-
David Friedman WRG:
You make some good points.
I honestly don't know what my "ratio" is. I don't vote that often at all, to tell you the truth. I mainly focus on writing. If something really catches my eye as being exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, then I vote or comment. I just didn't appreciate this guy choosing to make a crack about me in the comment section of a post that obviously has garnered a lot of votes, links, etc. I'm sure that this wasn't accidental but, like you said, this will probably sort itself out on its own within the community.

Jason David-
Sorry, but we're not going to get into confirming who voted things down. My guess is that most people don't care, and that HP aren't losing sleep over one down vote on one of the most-hyped stories of the year.
So: don't worry about it. And maybe consider WRG's advice.
-
David Friedman Fair enough. Since the original comment about me was in poor taste and inflammatory I thought that you might make an exception but I understand the reason for confidentiality.
I just don't want anyone to think that I am picking a fight with HP or that I disliked this post.

When I was in college one of my football coaches said the following about another team's wide receivers, "Those cats don't like to get hit." Unfortunately they did like to run, catch passes and score touchdowns. More importantly I really like his use of the word "cats". So I'm trying to bring it mainstream. Along those lines, the crazy cats at Hardwood Paroxysm have a blog awards ballot that you should check out ...

Rock The Vote
Published 4/18/2008 by Patrick at Give Me The Rock
I’m typically one not to shill, but I’ll make an exception for this event. While it has been up for a while now, Hardwood Paroxysm is currently running the NBA Blogger Season Awards for 2008. So far so good (in fact, I like the idea so much I’ve already voted). However, one of Hardwood’s categories includes the “best nightly recap” and, surprisingly, GMTR is nowhere to se seen. Best. Nightly. Recap. As in Day X of 170. What a total shaft.
So, if you’ve got a couple spare seconds, head over to Hardwood Paroxysm and give a write-in vote to GMTR for best nightly recap. Why? I’ll give you 7 solid reasons.
1. Unlike some ...
